McIntosh MC1502

Hi to all

New here and considering this amp for my monitor audios pl500ii. Not sure if it will have enough grunt. Any thoughts. Preamp is a c22mk5

That tube preamp has terrific features,

that tube amp is also rated for 150 wpc 2, 4 or 8 ohms, so I think it is a good choice. I love the sound of my KT88’s (only 4 for 45 wpc)

those 4 ohm speakers, sensitivity 91, oh baby, let me know when I can come over!

sometimes, I remind people that they can always get a second amp for more power in the future, run as Mono blocks, but not the one you are looking at, Stereo Use only.

Well, maybe this will help... I am running dual monoblock McIntosh Mc275 V in a very large open floor plan room with a cathedral ceiling powering Wilson Watt Puppy 8 speakers.  The Mc1502 was supposed to address the need of guys who were monoblocking two Mc275s, so, I guess it should apply.  My room is actually larger than 25’ x 18’ x 19’ high.  These are the measurements to the half wall where the stereo is setup, but, the actual room extends to 34’.  The speakers are 12’ apart.  It looks like sensitivity is almost the same at 4 ohm between my wilsons (92db) and your speakers (91db).  Even in this very large room, I get plenty of volume and dynamics with the two amps.  -10db on the c2300 preamp is way too loud even in this room.  Bass and midrange are excellent and the amps make the treble sweet.  At higher volumes I can get the bar at the end of the room to vibrate and I can feel vibration in my chest.  Bass maybe could be tighter ?  I am not sure.  I am more old school, so, I like the bass I am hearing.   Imaging and sound stage are great.  Depending on your room, I really doubt you will need more power than the 1502 puts out.  Note: you can see my stereo system in my details under system.

Thanks guys. Went for 2 mc275vi. Never had sound like this before at home. Very happy 😁
