brief update: I installed JPlay on my IPad and once configured (integrated Qobuz) it saw the Bricasti immediately and plays QoBuz content, no separate server.
My understanding is the IPad in this scenario (from Qobuz and other sources) doesnt touch the stream at all, just directs the Bric to do its thing. the sound (compared to running Q from laptop which was what i was doing before) via USB is astonishingly good!!
It takes a second or 2 to load when i select a song, but I definitely can live with that. There are some setting int the JPlay app that control how often the endpoint and controller communicate that (if you raise the time between pings) lowers network traffic which purportedly increased quality.
I dont have music files to run through it, so a network storage device/streamer isnt a mandatory thing. My home PC is too old and would not serve as a capable server for roon.
For now, not needing a roon subscription or server is a $ plus and it sounds fantastic.
