To All Cable Deniers, 1 Very Simple Question.

There are people coming into cable threads and saying all cables sound identical. So I have 1 question for y'all.

Today, it is about power cords.

The end-plug, the metal part, the one you plug into the wall outlet. Without knowing the % of copper in the plug of your basic cable, can you absolutely certain say it sounds identical to a plug with 98% copper?

How about 60% copper plug vs 98% copper? Identical?

40% copper, Identical?

20% copper, Identical?

0% copper, Identical?

To wrap up, the question is very simple. If the copper % is different, would the 2 plugs still sound the same?

A bonus question, if a plug is 60% gold, will it sound identical vs a 98% copper?

What's funny to me about the "believers" vs. "deniers" debate is that it's typical for no one to seriously investigate the question, "Have the bigger kinks in the audio chain been identified and addressed?"

Mahgister talks about this a lot -- and he's absolutely right.

No one should bother with cable expenditures if their room is a mess or even not very good. Or not treated. Or their amp. Or speaker positioning. Or their preamp. And on and on.

It's fun to have debates, but in my experience people debating cables are like steak connoisseurs debating flavor when there's ketchup dumped all of the steak. They're just too encumbered (by circumstances) or too lazy to answer basic questions affecting 50% of the sound -- the room.

I found long ago that experimenting on ones own is best because we all hear differently, and I wasn't making any progress listening to others tell me what I should not hear.

That is true, but it has to be based on some educated assumption, otherwise we are in voodoo territory.  Shall I expect better bass by placing my amp lower on the floor or better highs when it is on the upper shelf?   Do black cables bring darker background (shall I experiment?).

Usually in those cable free-for-alls, the more ignorant of science and less educated the posters are, the more strident and unmoored from reality they sound. On both sides.
