To All Cable Deniers, 1 Very Simple Question.

There are people coming into cable threads and saying all cables sound identical. So I have 1 question for y'all.

Today, it is about power cords.

The end-plug, the metal part, the one you plug into the wall outlet. Without knowing the % of copper in the plug of your basic cable, can you absolutely certain say it sounds identical to a plug with 98% copper?

How about 60% copper plug vs 98% copper? Identical?

40% copper, Identical?

20% copper, Identical?

0% copper, Identical?

To wrap up, the question is very simple. If the copper % is different, would the 2 plugs still sound the same?

A bonus question, if a plug is 60% gold, will it sound identical vs a 98% copper?

There are two diametrically opposed cable cohorts: believers versus deniers. And it’s in every audio forum in the world since time immemorial.

Anecdotally, IMO, the former seems to have the larger number of card-carrying members, whereas the latter seems to have the more aggressive tenor post; and frequently repeated by a small core group of forum posters with a pattern of multi posts in the same threads just to re-emphasize their opinions.

Result: the too oft-repeated cable debate wars. So it’s up to each individual to face the intransigence that each cohort has absolutely NIL chance of EVER convincing the other side to change their mind.

One litmus test adopted in CANUCKAUDIOMART is the welcome intercedence by the mods to “referee” the cable posts, and impose a playbook of acceptable and unacceptable posts of personal experiences.

Emphasis on polite expression of a personal experience is fine,  BUT without any dismissal of, or escalation in a further futile debate, with the contrarians. This works both ways in tbis Mexican standoff.

Cable posters who ignore a forum common sense code of conduct in this narrow item, will be (a) initially warned, and (b) repeat offenders face restrictions or even ultimate suspension.

@akg_ca - Slap too many rules on something and you inevitably end up with a narrative that mirrors whatever the rule makers want it to be. I prefer high curbs but wide boulevards to allow interesting discourse, even when that freedom results in the occasional dust-up or failure to communicate.  There are many areas in life where people must simply learn to agree to disagree.

Not everyone here falls squarely in either the believer or denier camp.  I hear differences in some cables and, as a result, I spend money on the cables I believe make a difference in my system.  However, I am well aware those differences that I believe I hear may not be repeatedly, and reliably, identifiable if I were called to task - and I am ok with that.  There are many things discussed in these forums that some say make a profound difference in the sound of their systems and yet, when I purchased and tried them, made no perceivable difference in my system whatsoever.

I learn stuff here every day and I would rather put up with a few posters who occasionally display bad manners, than to lose the variety. Besides, if you don’t take this stuff too seriously, the dust-ups can be humorous. Just my opinion.

If someone asks about a cable are only positive comments to be allowed? There are some inconvienient truths about cables that should be known before spending rediculious amounts of money. I see that as constructive criticism for consideration.

"improvement thru placebo effect is still improvement"  Good for you!!! Glad your happy!!    but the problem is... trying to convince other people that your fantasy is real, when it's not.
