Any upgraded to a Schiit Yggy Singular?

I’m currently using an original Yggy and got on the list to upgrade mine to their new Yggy Singular (affectionately known as “Byggy”). I just received my notice that my number was up for the upgrade and am a little on the fence about it.

They changed the topography of the Singular to an in house made Delta-Sigma DAC, and they had advised they had run into supply problems for their boards, which created delay. I haven’t heard much about the new version other than the long thread at SBAF, which I take with a grain of salt.

I have some other fish to fry in my rig, but my DAC is ten years old, so an upgrade is probably in order. The upgrade runs $2k. It was highly regarded ten years ago, but there are a lot of new players now, so I’m really coming at this from scratch.

Anybody have an opinion on the new Yggy?

I got the Byggy today and playing it to make sure it works. I am not installing Forkbeard since I do not want to deal with that when I am selling the DAC.

This DAC already sounding like the descriptions I read from Schiit and the headphone gurus on Head-fi. Not so much in the details, still burning in, but the overall sound signature. It is different from the LIM | MIB | OG (listed in order of decreasing warmth). The Byggy seems to the right of the OG, but still very early. I like the DAC a lot, but it will not be as good as my new imersiv D-1, and I have now gotten that DAC to work on 2 systems so do not need 2 DACs.

My guess is that the Byggy would be what I use for 2-channel and something a little warmer like the original Yggi for headphones. The Yggi+ MIB was great on my SR1a phone, that is because my RAAL SR1a are bright.

BTW - Schiit left California for Texas last year.

BTW2 - The Wotan is not a game changer sonically. It is similar to amps I owned at $8k.  If I sold my CODA #16, which is driving a used $1000 Magnepan Mini (kind of crazy), I would choose the Wotan. Some $8k amps I owned before are the CODA #8, Sanders, maybe the KRELL Dou 175XD. I liked all 3 other amps about the same as the Wotan. The Wotan is not a game changer in sonics but in price.

I sold the Wotan because I purchased a used CODA #11 and I use that on my best system, and the #16 on the system where the Wotan used to be. The #16 is much better than the Wotan. I also was able to sell the Wotan for almost the purchase price.

@yyzsantabarbara , thanks for your impressions on the “Byggy”.
As much as I like the Yggy, I’m not sure the upgrade it contemplates is anything I need. I have no need for Forkbeard, and the improvements seem to be modest. I have other fish to fry and might be interested in moving in a different direction anyway after ten years.

No problem.

I think I will be forced to keep the Byggy. My grand plans of using the imersiv D-1 DAC on 2 systems without changing cables is not going to work, without an XLR/RCA switchbox. I will be keeping the Byggy until then or maybe long-term since it does sound good in my office system. I will be using the Schiit Valhalla 3 OTL/OCL preamp with a custom passive RCA switcher that SpaceTechLab in Canada is building for me. It could be great.

This is not the same switchbox that I mentioned first, that is grander product and still in the idea stage of a friend.

Considering that you are using some goofy golden-ear speakers, you should probably focus on the other fish first, fry em with some garam masala.
