Any upgraded to a Schiit Yggy Singular?

I’m currently using an original Yggy and got on the list to upgrade mine to their new Yggy Singular (affectionately known as “Byggy”). I just received my notice that my number was up for the upgrade and am a little on the fence about it.

They changed the topography of the Singular to an in house made Delta-Sigma DAC, and they had advised they had run into supply problems for their boards, which created delay. I haven’t heard much about the new version other than the long thread at SBAF, which I take with a grain of salt.

I have some other fish to fry in my rig, but my DAC is ten years old, so an upgrade is probably in order. The upgrade runs $2k. It was highly regarded ten years ago, but there are a lot of new players now, so I’m really coming at this from scratch.

Anybody have an opinion on the new Yggy?

My Yggi+ LIM -> MIB -> Byggy is still at Schiit waiting to be shipped back. I just sold the Yggi+ OG to raise cash to buy the Imersiv D-1 DAC. I loved the Yggi+ OG and think it is much better than the LIM and MIB.  The D-1 is much better than the OG and unlike any other DAC.

I heard the new Schiit Guniger 2 on Saturday at a headphone meet. I liked the Guniger 2 more than the more expensive Yggi+ MIB. Even though I have not heard the Byggy, I have the Byggy up for sale on Head-fi but I am waffling on that sale because the Guniger 2 was rather good. It got me thinking that if the Guniger 2 was that good the Byggy will require a long listen on my part.

The reason I have the Byggy up for sale (I need 2 DACs) is that there is a new DAC coming out in Feb, the Allnic ASRA OTL/OCL ($10k) and it is supposed to be very similar to the Allnic D-15000 Signature OTL/OCL ($26k). I spent a good portion of Saturday listening to the D-15000 with the new Allnic ASRA headphone amp ($10k). This was phenomenal. I am 100% sure the ASRA will be much better than the Byggy. The question is whether I want to spend the dough.

I also had a Meitner MA3i DAC connected to the Allnic ASRA headphone amp and that was also great. My friend was involved in the design of the new Allnic ASRA lineup so I have some insider knowledge of how good this DAC will be.

If you want more info on the sound of the Byggy check out this thread which I think is the best place to learn about all Yggi DACs.

Around Nov - Dec is when the Byggy impressions start. The poster 'theveterans' is my favorite on the Yggi's.

BTW - based on some comments by 'theveterans' on how good the $279 Schiit Saga 2 preamp is I purchased it and he was correct. It is really good. I just sold a $3k preamp and replaced it with the Saga 2. A great way to raise cash for the DACs.

I am getting mine on Monday, an upgrade of the Yggi+ MIB to the Byggy. It is going up for sale on Monday too. Do not need it anymore and never heard it.

I got the Byggy today and playing it to make sure it works. I am not installing Forkbeard since I do not want to deal with that when I am selling the DAC.

This DAC already sounding like the descriptions I read from Schiit and the headphone gurus on Head-fi. Not so much in the details, still burning in, but the overall sound signature. It is different from the LIM | MIB | OG (listed in order of decreasing warmth). The Byggy seems to the right of the OG, but still very early. I like the DAC a lot, but it will not be as good as my new imersiv D-1, and I have now gotten that DAC to work on 2 systems so do not need 2 DACs.

My guess is that the Byggy would be what I use for 2-channel and something a little warmer like the original Yggi for headphones. The Yggi+ MIB was great on my SR1a phone, that is because my RAAL SR1a are bright.

BTW - Schiit left California for Texas last year.

BTW2 - The Wotan is not a game changer sonically. It is similar to amps I owned at $8k.  If I sold my CODA #16, which is driving a used $1000 Magnepan Mini (kind of crazy), I would choose the Wotan. Some $8k amps I owned before are the CODA #8, Sanders, maybe the KRELL Dou 175XD. I liked all 3 other amps about the same as the Wotan. The Wotan is not a game changer in sonics but in price.

I sold the Wotan because I purchased a used CODA #11 and I use that on my best system, and the #16 on the system where the Wotan used to be. The #16 is much better than the Wotan. I also was able to sell the Wotan for almost the purchase price.
