This is why cd transports are being made so you can put a new separate dac newer better technology and sound processing. Some of the old spinners have the fiber optic out that can be used as a transport only. My dvd player is panasonic u9000 and sits above my soulution spinner for the money not that much difference,10% and to most that not worth 100's of multiples in $. Panasonic makes great chips and capicitors for decades. Why does com cast not use USB, hdmi for thier internet and does fiber optic and maybe cuz the long runs. Enjoy the music and the experiments
CD vs SACD in STEREO
I started to listen to SACD to enjoy the 5.1 format.
I thought SACD is exclusively used for that purpose.
Today read discussion about sound quality of new/modern/ "better" CD vs Streaming vs vinyl vs SACD, where the SACD apparently was referrung to STEREO SACD.
On a 'numbers' basis, what is the difference between CD and SACD (assume same player, etc)?

@mark200mph As mentioned, no separate DAC available for real 5.1 SACD.

Anyone know of a good placed to buy SACD's other than Discogs or Music Direct? There seems to be such a limited supply of them. I have a Cambridge CXUHD player that has been used approximately five times and has been boxed up for years. They have no DAC in them and will play SACD's, but you can't get the DSD stream out unless you have something such as the D.BOB that will put it into a DAC with an I2S input. Sony really made this way too difficult in my opinion. I mean SACD sounds, good, but in my opinion, it's not night and day difference between good Redbook CD's, but I'd prefer to go the SACD route if it were more convenient. I'm not interested in ripping them to files. Thanks |
