The $250 power cables and $600 power strip that dethroned my $10k Shunyata Everest
Hello fellow audiophiles. I've been using products from QSA Lanedri who I believe offer the best price to performance ratio on the market today for their power and signal cables. You may have heard of Quantum Science Audio fuses and might even have some installed in your system. QSA Lanedri have perfected this technology/treatment and are now offering it in their power and signal products. The line of products in particular is called Veridion Discovery which is their most affordable line. I currently own 2 Veridion Discovery power strips (daisy chained), 8 power cables, 3 ethernet cables, 1 DC cable. Initially I was sent a power and ethernet cable to try and was so impressed I ordered more including the power strips. I have been comparing their power cables to much more expensive cables from Audioquest and Furutech. I've also been comparing their power strip to my Shunyata Everest power conditioner and found I prefer the Discovery power strip. Infact I'm in the process of trading in my Shunyata Everest and corresponding Sigma X power cable for either a better integrated amplifier or speakers. Once you pair up Discovery power cables with the Discovery power strip things improve dramatically. Not only does audio improve but picture quality and home cinema improves also and will challenge anything at any price. I will say the Discovery line requires a few days of continuous use or "burn in" period before proper evaluation. I compared their Ethernet cables to the likes of Audioquest Diamond and Wireworld Platinum Starlight 8 and again preferred the Discovery line. Through the Discovery products music sounds cleaner and clearer with a heightened sense of realism. This also applies to film and TV. Compared to the Shunyata Everest picture quality is now cleaner with more vibrant colours. Motion and panning shots are improved with less stutter. I will add that I have the power strips on Auva EQ CSA1 isolation footers. All of my equipment is sitting on Auva EQ footers which I found were better than the Isoacoustic Oreo footers I had previously. The Discovery products look very basic and don't scream high end but from my experience they can go toe to toe with the best at very affordable prices! There was a similar discussion on the HiFi Five last week, only in reverse on how most of the technology in Audio (circuits in particular are 40-50-100 years old and that manufacturers are using exotic materials to and fancy marketing terminology to enhance cost, not performance. I believe you asked me in a previous post whether I could reconcile the things you've just discussed and I responded that I would have the same skepticism as you have. I can only account for the improvements I'm hearing and seeing in my system at what I believe is a good price point. If the Discovery cables are not for you then I wish you well on your journey. |
Good points on the surface, but that is a false equivalency. I’m talking selling a very simple cord from a company that uses the words "quantum, phase smearing, superconducting, proprietary. I make no mention whatsoever as to how they describe their product sounding in your system like your amp quote does. Completely unrelated to each other. You also presume to know what I would think about the amp manufacturer’s description of the sound. Again, apples and oranges. Does your amps description mention anything happening quantumly? Superconducting? Mitigating phase smearing? Correct me if I’m wrong, but I didn’t see anything about it in there. They simply used the word ’proprietary’ which I’m certain it is. Most, if not all amplifier manufacturers use a proprietary layout that you can physically see and verify by simply removing the top. Same goes for preamps, dacs, etc. The only thing you’re seeing with this product is literally a $5 cord. So yes, A 100% false equivalency. As to words meaning nothing, words are one of the most powerful things in the world. They can stop and start wars, begin and end relationships, crush spirits, uplift spirits, destroy lives, give hope...Words almost always precede and give perspective to actions. I’ll never understand when a person says that. As to your second post, I honestly didn’t understand it, so I’m afraid I can’t comment on it. Please don’t construe this post as an attack or a put down, as it is neither. I’m simply stating my point of you. I know words with no reference to personal inflections can seem bitey. Certainly not my intention. All right. Wasted enough of my time and energy on this distracting myself from real life. To all: believers and non believers, have the happiest and safest of holidays. Congratulations on your purchase of a Damn Good Amplifier, and kudos for supporting local business. You can’t possibly be serious though - the DGA is a well-reviewed, well-respected piece of kit often seen powering Songer Audio’s - another local craftsman - universally acclaimed field-coil speakers, and there you are bringing it up as "evidence" in a power cord swindle discussion. Yes, the purple prose deployed to extol the DGA’s sonic virtues reads like a bad romance novel. It is also obviously tongue-in-cheek, and clearly not intended to mislead or deceive the reader in any way. Instead, it’s an idiosyncratic wink and nod. You might call it a manifestation of the Keep Portland Weird "movement", which used to be mildly annoying 30 years ago but has acquired a certain poignancy of late, fueled as it is by nostalgia for a city long since transformed by successive waves of, uh, well-intentioned young transplants. But one assumes you already know all that.
