@kennyb I think the attackers are so relentless because users are sharing such positive impressions about effective products that many can afford.
Agree. They aren’t interested in trying the free trial to try, purchase, or even to prove or disprove their unsupported position.
I also agree that those who advocate try audio components on your own system, but refuse to do the same is hypocritical. This is not the same as not being interested in purchasing the product.
I understand the skepticism on how does a metal treatment make a significant positive sonic difference? I can accept cryo treatment benefits but what changes at the atomic/molecular level does this treatment work on?
We are taught that electricity flows like water, but that’s only an analogy. When I tried to research online how electricity really works, it was confusing so I gave it up
In my reasoning, shouldn’t simply higher purity, monocrystal structure, and a great dialectic be the very best? But Siltech has a few generations of silver cables.
Masterbuilt Cables (not superconducting) were designed as a side job by USA govt superconductor scientists. When they were released for sale, many on WBF debated on the Masterbuild website, not understanding what was written. Many WBF engineers and scientists debated deeply until the govt scientists answered their concerns/questions.
General scientists or engineers no matter their credentials do not even come close to the knowledge of those in the specific fields.
Also, Masterbuilt TOL cables are an alloy and NOT pure silver, so they obviously know something I do not.
When QSA first came out, they only offered fuses. Looking at the prices:
QSA- fuses 29, 71, 213, 711, 1422, 2844, 5000,10000
Seems like QSA is almost (arbitrarily?) doubling the price per level which felt like gauging. I wasn’t thrilled if the fuse blew, then goodbye $.
Since then, QSA came out with many other products: receptacles, circuit breakers, power conditioning plugs…. I might have tried the receptacles, but Lanedri cables seem a better choice.
I’m impressed that QSA Lanedri uses some well established cables as their base: Iconoclast and the Blue Jeans Cables. I’m also impressed that they also have Sablon cables who competes with the very top audiophile cables but at much more attainable prices. Still, after the QSA treatment the Gamma and above lines were pricey.
At AXPONA, they demonstrated their new much more affordable line Discovery. There they swiped cables in and out and maybe everyone (not everyone spoke up, but no deniers) heard the difference and they sold many.
Some look for subjective“value”, which is a comparison to what’s come before. Seems like a great way to evaluate/control one’s expenditures. However, proprietary information is often not available to make a valued judgement. This is true of audiophile cabling and this QSA metal treatment - we will never know.
Everyone is free to not purchase what they don’t understand, but that way of thinking limits options. “Value” is not really compatible with high-end audio - we pay more for better Sonics. How does one place a monetary value on a sonic uptick? What is the value of a lower noise floor, or…..
I do use “relative value” when comparing component price to performance vs other components. Extremely important in stretching performance with limited budgets.
Some are also fearful of getting tricked/deceived, so their default thinking is the defensive “it’s wrong until proven right TO ME”. Although being cautious in this world is wise from being deceived, I disagree that’s it’s best to live overly defensively.
Rather than yes/no, true/false, I look at “PROBABILITY” - If many voices says this action will yield this result, I simply take it as “if I do as they do, chances are I will only likely get the same result”. Nothing is definite. Just like you won’t know FOR SURE unless you try it in your own audio chain to see if you personally subjectively like it and if it’s worth the purchase.
Bottom line - you won’t know until you try.
I do notice a few Agoners are VERY price sensitive/insecure - they quickly resent others who can afford what they cannot. One Agoner mentioned that his component costs 10k, then was immediately met with “are you bragging?”
I personally make it a point to greatly avoid any jealousy or envy, as the only fruit is negative.
On this forum, I try to avoid stepping on price sensitive land mine Agoners. But this has led to a dilemma - I just scored my dream and likely end game electronics Humboldt and wanted to start a thread of my journey, but am weary of those sensitive folks.
