Stretching out with other worldly and US jazz influenced music

I wanted to start a thread to show there is more than just Avant Garde and or Straight Ahead Jazz music in our world. And there is absolutely nothing wrong at all with Avant Garde and or Straight Ahead Jazz music as I do love that part of US Jazz based culture. But sometimes I want to hear and add more sound spices as it were, from other worldly and US jazz influenced music.

There is so much more other worldly and US jazz influenced music that goes unnoticed and it's time to bring those musics of different sound spices to the forefront to be shared.

Although I have started this thread I am not a or the moderator. Let me repeat I am not a or the moderator. I don't have the time nor energy to police anyone's take on the music they like and want to share. As I will always try and be open to others choices of music.

@acman3,

Well, after all my comments on introductory commentary, I just got lazy on this post here. I’m human. Hope you all enjoy this one too. You can actually hear the cicadas in the night air, as if they were part of the duo’s ensemble. I love the call and response.

Always great to find new musical adventures to explore, great suggestions so far. I have found a plethora of great jazz from Japan and Africa in particular.

The Japanese jazz is extensive and varied.  It can sometimes be hard to find much of it streaming but try any of the Wamono compilation records or any Three Blind Mice records which have outstanding pressings. Artist like Ryo Kawasaki, Kazumi Watanabe, Isao Suzuki, Yuko Mabuchi, Tsuyoshi Yamamoto and many others. You will find traditional jazz, fusion, and many unique takes on jazz standards in addition to original compositions.

African jazz is also great. The LP “One Night in Pelican” is a fantastic collection of South African Jazz and anything by Hugh Masakela. Ethio Jazz by Mulatu Astatke is quite nice as well.Cuban jazz ala Bueno Vista Social Club is also quite tasty.

I haven't got a chance to listen to anything else yet, but it's good to know I can always refer back to this post and  listen to some others.

I had mentioned Jothan Callins' Winds of Change in the other thread and I finally got the reissue in. (I have an original private pressing). The reissue is stunning- there is no information about sourcing so I wrote to the company, Mad About Records (Portugal) to ask. Given that a clean original copy is easily 500 USD, it is a bargain.
