Kondo AN silver tonearm wire
I’m having Analogmagik direct-wire my FR-66s, and I was planning on Kondo silver wires. Richard Mak is not a fan of working with this (and I know its difficult to work with) but has anyone had any experience with the anti-skating / resistance issue he mentioned here:
"Kondo Silver is very stiff wire, it is made by an OEM factory which I shall not disclose. It is not the best for FR application as it acts like an antiskating when it twist in the 90 degree turn. If you insist on using Kondo, I will put it in."

Richard Mak refurbished my FR-64S earlier this year, and I followed his advice to use his proprietary silver wiring inside the arm. The refurbished arm is a real keeper and my only reservation about it is that I should have opted for a continuous length of the silver tonearm wire extending to the RCA plugs. At the time I was hesitant about committing to a single cable. With a DIN output on the tonearm, I could try different tonearm cables to get the sound I wanted. However, in retrospect I believe the silver wire used by Richard is very good and doesn’t have the colorations many silver wires have. Having a continuous run of that same silver wire would probably be better sounding than my several DIN cable options. |
