Things that “blow your mind”

In this hobby of ours, the things that have “blown your mind”.  Both Fact & Fiction.

Pop had commandeered the dining room for one of his systems. (A neat trick in and of itself!) I don’t recall the amps though the pre was likely an ARC SP3. But the speakers were a double set of KLH9 ESLs. One evening he had me sit in the sweet spot at the head of the table.

The album? Santana Abraxas…

To this day I remember the sonic image. Detailed, rich and deep. I realized pop was  giving me a objective lesson in how to do things right. Up to then, how loud something was and how much bass was all important. Maybe it’s why to this day that if a speaker’s stage is lacking it’s a nonstarter for me.

Happy listening.

@bassbuyer “Atmos” and “Boom!”

”Boom!”

A great 1968 film soundtrack by John Barry.

“Atmos” should be a good mix. Last time l looked, the Moon was waaay up there!”

What keeps blowing my mind is the creativity, mastery, and talent it took to make some of my favorite recordings. The skill of the musicians, the arranging, the poetry and stories, the inventive melodies, and the song structure just seem too good to be possible, but there they are.

Records that I've listened to dozens of times can still blow me away as I gather new insights and appreciate their craftsmanship even more.
