@mswale ignore some of the noise, synergy is key, trying either another DAC, Streamer or 1 box combo that matches the gear you have will give you proof of concept, confirm or dispel it’s the streamer that’s the bottle neck. True bang for the buck. If you want to go 1 box, Lumin D series or T series used, likely would present a nice jump up on performance, assuming it syncs up with the rest of your gear. Good Luck and Happy Holidays!
My streamer doesn't have a good fantom centerDSP
All vintage analog system, Cambridge Audio streamer using built in DAC. Radio (yes, I listen to it regularly) and Vinyl both have huge sound stage, great image, it sounds like voices are coming directly out from my audio rack. However, when playing my streamer, it's more like just L/R speakers. That center image isn't always there.
My streamer software/firmware are up to date, cables are connected correctly, use Tidal Connect with MAX bitrate. It does sound great, very clean, clear, great dynamics, good sound stage, but the center is just not right.
My thoughts are that my speakers are setup correctly, due to the other sources working just fine. Not using any signal adjustments in the streamer (DPS, EQ).
Thinking might need to invest in a better streamer? Mine is a budget one after all.

What is everyones thoughts on this? https://tmraudio.com/fresh-arrivals/mytek-brooklyn-bridge-streaming-dac-d-a-converter-mm-mc-phono/ |
first, its price is for BB I. You need to do your HW to find out the differences bet. BB I & II to make informative pur. dec. Second, the measurements seem poor but that is not the only factor and you has 30 day to return it if dislike. If I were you, I will find out the cause for your issue first by experimenting a different cheaper option. |
@mswale I test drove a Mytek Btooklyn 2 DAC forbfew days. To me it sounded forward and a bit “processed”. At the time I was shopping for a new DAC. I had in hand: Chord Qutest, Myrek Brooklyn 2, Bryston BDA-3.14. I would look at R2R DACs that TMR has in used inventory. You get a 30 day return policy but there’s a 5% restocking fee on used equipment. Let me see what they have as a one piece streaming dac solution. . |
They have this Audio Research DAC you can use your current streamer with… https://tmraudio.com/fresh-arrivals/audio-research-dac8-dac-d-a-converter-pavj/ This will be a great sounding DAC but…The USB card in these units is not compatible with modern linux based streamers. You will be forced to use coax. Also, you need to make sure that the streamer you’re using can output 24/192 via coax. The ARC DAC can accept 44 to 192 on the coax input. Based on your mxn10 manual…Digital Coax and Optical outputs support a maximum of 192kHz 32bit, up to DSD64 Other options - they have a few Denafrips Pontus DACs. These are R2R DACs. Honestly I would pick ARC. |
