Why some preamps weigh 50+ lbs?

I’m looking at an integrated but am open. I just was looking around and there are preamps weighing 50-70 lbs! Why ? What could be in a damn preamp that would weigh 50+ lbs. ?

@kennyc - put some audiophile approved brass damping weights on the top, carefully reweigh, problem solved.

I am on the verge of buying a preamp that costs $433/lb.  But after reading this thread, I probably should look for something with a higher cost per pound?

I guess my Benchmark products don’t qualify as high-end then. Preamp with HPA weighing in at 8 lbs and the power amps 12.5 lbs each. The Benchmark DAC 3B coming in at 3 lbs. Orchard PecanPi+ streamer at 10 lbs. Compared to the Anthem AVR 740x used as integrated amp before at 33.2 lbs. Sound improvement after replacing the Anthem - priceless and immeasurable.

My back is happy and its much easier easy to swap interconnects / cables. Oh, and to clean below and behind them - that keeps my wife happy and interested in my hobby.

At the end of the day its about the music.

Happy Thanks Giving to y'all Americans!

Enjoy the music!

I only go for manageable products these days.  Lots of good choices.  Need not weigh a ton.  My 200 w/ch amp weighs 5 lbs and my Schitt preamp maybe just  a tad more.  My streamer is even lighter.  I still have 100 lb speakers and also more modular design ie monitors and powered sub.  Ability to set up gear properly in a room is perhaps the single most important thing to consider when choosing.

Benchmark gear:   Thumbs up!👍
