In medicine there is the art and science where they both merge. There is always the therapeutic trial that is the art of medicine. So is with sound and how the ear and brain interput it's the art and science of music.enjoy and stay healthy.

This has been a very fun thread to follow over the past several days! Starting with definitions, a scientist is "an expert in or student of one or more of the natural or physical sciences." A hedonist is "a person who believes that the pursuit of pleasure is the most important thing in life." Personally, I use my understandings of applicable sciences to improve my listening pleasure. Changes evaluated first by measurable aspects then aesthetic ones are balanced against my personal appreciation of both for my circumstances at the time. That seems to make me a scientific hedonist, at least insofar as audio is concerned. The same thing generally applies for my perceptions of art, bagels, books, cars, furniture and so forth. Then I use the economic scale and find I have very expensive tastes. Garlic and sourdough bagels I can always afford! |
@effischer “…..my perceptions….” So good also read a well informed balanced view on here too. Who said science is boring if you can mix it up with a bagel as a reward. Even better to have a laugh with a scientist when there are so many apparently out there with no sense of irony, or humour, or humor. |
