Since we’re generally off the main topic here, I’d like to recommend a string quartet I discovered on IDAGIO : Quator Arod. Incredible rendering of the Haydn Op. 76 String Quartets and Debussy Quartet.
Interestingly, the recorded sound on IDAGIO in standard resolution is better than hi res file on Qobuz.

I’ve been streaming for months now. For some unexplainable reason I’ve been concentrating for the main part on the latest classical releases out there . Quizzically, I have ignored the unlimited access to recorded history that we have in our hands. Heifetz, Horowitz, Reiner, Toscanini, Piatigorsky, Stokowski and countless other twentieth century geniuses are copiously available. I just can’t believe it took me this long to wake up.
I’m writing this for any classical music lovers who, like me, have been blind to the mind-blowing potential afforded us.

I agree with the suggestions on the Bach solo violin. I also would add Christian Tetzlaff. Still on Bach, there is the great Mass in B Minor. There is the great version with Karl Richter and the Munich Bach Choir, and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau at the peak of his career. However, I really line the Pygmalion with Raphael Pichon. Fischer-Dieskau, but really great choir works. |
