That's awesome, I'm sure your Father will really appreciate the surprise upgrade and joy he'll get from listening to his system. Based on the comps for recent sales and the condition of the speakers, the dent, you can likely negotiate on price with the seller. They are priced at slightly above fair market based on the condition, small dent. High End electronics are like cars, they depreciate exponentially and the really high end gear depreciates by the largest percentage. Like a high end car, high end speakers like these have a smaller customer base and that base is more likely to buy a new set of speakers than aged. Hifi speakers like these are more work, wrong room, wrong electronics can make for a really disappointing experience. Right room, right gear which can be pricey, kind of like the difference in maintenance on a high end car vs a more economical car. Good news is your Father likes the Focal sound, that's key, be sure to account for his listening space, that it's big enough to let these speakers shine. The electronics, you can grow into, swap new gear if needed. Another speaker you might look at that's a cheaper option and is easier for room placement is the Focal Electra 1038BE, there are a couple used pairs in the 6 k range, the 1028BE's if you could find them likely are a couple grand less. They have the same driver medium and use the same tweeter type. They aren't in the same class as these but still sound amazing and will be easier to dial in, more forgiving overall. From what I was told, Focal discontinued them because they were too close to their higher end speaker lines, the law of diminishing returns was eating into higher end sales. With the $$ you can upgrade other components. I had a set, paired with some nice gear, with the right recordings, they were magical but for me, they were too bright, could be harsh with rock and poorer recordings. I sold them, the guy that bought them also bought an old Yamaha HT receiver I had lying around, he loved the sound, even with the lower end Yamaha. Good luck!
Focal Scala Utopia V1
Hello I would like to apologize in advance I am very new to the audiophile world. I recently came across some Focal Scala Utopia V1's in very good condition with one small dent. They come with the boxes and all the original accessories and paperwork. He is asking $10,500 is this a good price in 2025? I can't seem to find any other of the V1's for sale to compare prices. I appreciate any help.
