What’s playing on your turntable…. Does anyone care?

When l was in a previous discussion l questioned the value myself if l would want to tell anyone what l was listening to. I have always wondered why do some posters feel compelled on a regular basis to tell others what’s playing on their turntable?

What makes someone want to do that? Personally l fail to see the point. So l have posted this question to others to test if there’s any curiosity value in it. What would an analyst make if it all. Is it a form of attention seeking?

Why do people feel compelled to make negative posts about what other people enjoy?  The fact that the thread has been running for over 20 years on this forum should tell you all you need to know.

I definitely care. I find it a great source of new (to me) music. Yes I am into the equipment part of this hobby just like everyone else. But the real reason I spent all that money is for the music.

I don't have an issue with the sharing per se, its just that I see very little value in it when tunes/albums listed are common/million selling albums that everyone already knows about. Why should I care about what your listening to. On the other hand, listing less known music provides a service.

When I'm moved by an lp thats not very common I'll usually post for 2 reasons -

1- to hopefully turn someone onto something they're not familiar with

Or 2- to remind someone that has the lp to pull it out and give a spin.

I for one am always looking for new music and/or a reminder to spin something I already have. Also to understand the tastes in music of the regulars. I like alot of the same things as Slaw for one
