High current amp search
Hello, so as the title says, I'm looking for a 200+ wats amp (8ohm) that will double it's power down to 2 ohms but importantly also check all the audiophile boxes so strong, articulate, fast bass, smooth resolving mid-range and extended non fatiguing highs. It's proving to be rather difficult because hardly any manufacturers list output into 2ohms. Budget is around 4000$ so I'm looking at mostly used. Besides something like the Krell FPB 300/400 CX which can be had for that much , what else can be recommended?
The Bryston Cubed series- specifically the 7B and 28B double from 8 to 2 ohms although their advertised rating stops @ 900 into 4 ohms. A talk with the principal James Tanner will confirm this. (owners of specialty HiFi products are surprisingly accessible) You can get a pair of 7B SST mono blocks for 4-5K these days. That's a LOT of amp for not much money. |
You've had several suggestions about looking at Parasound solid-state ampilifiers; well made, perform way above their price point and most are designed by John Curl, whats not to like? Pass also has some nice pieces, but at higher price points than Parasound, but still as good, maybe better with specific models. Krell and Bryston also well represented here by others. If you can't find something made by one of these four manufacturers, you might reconsider your selection critieria. |
@muzzleblast I've had an A21+ here for awhile some time so. It was good, not special though. I didn't say I'm not happy with the suggestions or that I can't find something from said suggestion. As of right now I'm leaning towards Coda. |
Dear @lukaszwk : That was only and example. Normally 80hz id the one.
If you can't integrate subs to your mains through a high pass then you need to test and test to do it, it's not rocket science. Only patience and knowledge and ovbiously good subs as those Velodyne.
No black magic. If you have trouble in the past the problem with all respect is you and nothing but you.
Subs are for a 2 channel to reduce the IMD and system THD. It's the best quality sound level you can achieve in any system no matters what.

The whole foundation in any audio home system belongs to the bass range management and as better this bass range as better what we can listen through any two channel system.
Next system is a top analog two channel system and those speakers have two subwoofers toweras running in that bass frequency range: Mike Lavigne's System | Virtual Listening Room Do you think that @mikelavigne is " crazy ".
