Why do you listen to records?

Sorry, we were talking at cross purposes. However, I still disagree. 

Yes, we’ve had two new formats in the past forty years, CD and streaming. Maybe, some of us have the exactly same turntable they did forty years ago, but mine has got massively better than it was then. In general, they have come a long way.

There have been big technological improvements in bearings, motors, new materials for plinths, power supplies, isolation, MC cartridges, phono stages, optical cartridges, record cleaners, etc. Not to mention digital coming into the processing involved in making records and their replay. Vinyl has developed and evolved alongside the new formats.

@newton_john I don't have strong feelings to argue, whatever.

We can say that a TT being 99.99% more stable, the speed being 99.99% closer to the atomic clock are massive improvements. 

To me, fundamentally, it's refinements, not paradigm shifts, and new technologies introduced. 

My Personal opinion and just me, adding to this long list

I listen because I am nostalgic, growing up with Vinyl and I am curious how original pressings vinyl sounds in today's top notch turntables and phono cartridges.

Personally, I am a digital type of man. using streaming 90% of the time, but I got an Analog Gear (VPI, HANA and JC3+) just to listen occasionally to old records and analyzes how these records played in yester years

That's a good point. I suspect we don't all listen for the same thing in music.

For me it's ​​​​all about the buzz I get from it - the visceral experience of it. I can't put this in words very well - there's a thread here on altered states. It's easier to get from a good hifi system, but sometimes it comes from listening on very modest equipment depending on mood and situation.

I am getting it now from David Lowery's new album on Qobuz. Most often I get from listening to vinyl. However there's no hard and fast rules here.

Same here. There are no right or wrong answers. Just different interpretations.  

I suppose the paradigm shift is digital itself, which lead to CD and streaming, not to mention its infiltration into vinyl.
