Looking for an Amp or Integrated Amp with a solid midrange presence

I bought a pair of Omega Dyna 10 2-way speakers (8 Ohms, 91db sensitivity) that paired beautifully with my old Harman Kardon Twin Powered 930 receiver (1972) and PM 665 vxi integrated, that I'd swap out as the urge hit.  Over the past 6 months both units have needed repairs and after investing a fair amount over the years I'm reluctant to get these worked on again. Would anyone care to recommend a good amp that would have that deep musical weight the HK's provided? I tried the Yamaha AS801 but it was much weaker than the 100WPC implied.  My listening room is 14' wide by 16" deep.  Used for movies and 2 channel stereo only , no home theater .  Budget maximum would be $1500 range.

I appreciate everyone's feedback.

The only meaningful recommendations you could get are from other Omega Dyna 10 owners; everything else is just a guess. You'd be much better off finding a preamp solution that can affect whatever in-room, mid-range dip you are experiencing (which is measurable), paired with an amp that is not load-dependent, and therefore adds nothing, nor takes anything away. Good luck!

@chip7936  The Yamaha 801 is a bit of an outlier in the lower price bracket because it is not a v curve amp (boosted bass and treble signature, perception of recessed mids). In fact, it has a enhanced mid-range presence by default, that can be enhanced further with its loudness control feature.  On the other hand, many lower budget amps will tend to be voiced as v-curve amps.

There is also a specific Angela Yeung mod available for that amp (for not very much cash at all, around $250, 300 or so) that can juice it up a lot more...after which nothing else in the lower price brackets can catch up to it or even some amps that are quite a bit more expensive can’t catch up to it.

..... So, it can serve as a smarter longer term solution.

I’d recommend you let that yamaha break-in for atleast 200 hours. They tend to require that ballpark of hours for break-in. Also, verify nothing else is wrong in the chain since your speaker shouldn’t be particularly hard to drive.

Audioholics measured the 801 extensively years ago and i have too. There isn’t much of anything weak about it, to begin with.

If you are buying used or raising your budget, other options open up, of course...but, beware of some guy’s used/abused junk breaking down on you.

No electrical issues, had all the plugs re-wired and my NAD 316 is running fine.

Other than that, some of Sugden's stuff is known to have a enhanced midrange presence. Some amps suggested on this thread certainly don't have a enhanced midrange presence! You will most probably be sitting on the merry-go-round with those...

The Rega Elex-R is well worth a look. Folks in several forums who know the amp, sing their praises, they loved, and keep them. The Elex-R is thoughtfully designed and the fit and finish is superb. The Remote works fine in spite of that it feels generic with too many buttons that do nothing. Balance, musicality are all there ! 70 watts per channel; I am not familiar with your speakers but based on recommendations here, I’m guessing the Rega will have sufficient power.

I brought the Musical Fidelity A1 home for comparison, and while the A1 sounded great, and might have been my choice for a couple of selections that I brought to the comparison, all in all I preferred the Elex-R. The on-board phono stage for Moving Magnet is also very nice.  They can be found from about $1000-1300
