any ATC experts here? Im considering SCM19's vs SCM20PSL Pro Mk2

could anybody comment or guess the difference in sound?

It appears the  SCM20PSL Pro Mk2 is also made in active and more costly home versions so 4 total ATC offerings I guess in this stand mount segment

I HEARD ATC ACTIVE 50 spkrs and was utterly blown away, so much so I questioned my system.

The 20s use the same drivers but are set up differently than the 19s.   19s sound "warmer" than the 20s but in all other respects offer the same basic presentation.  In a studio, the 20 would be preferred for its more accurate and flatter presentation.  In a home where where people tend to listen at much lower levels, the 19 would sound more pleasant and a bit prettier.  The 19 passive also has a more contemporary look to it.  The new 20 Classic Active can be ordered a larger variety of furniture grade finishes.  It has gotten a large number of excellent reviews over the past year from the audiophile press that discuss its specific sonic virtues in detail.

One note about pro versions: these use raw MDF painted with a coat of inexpensive black splatter paint.  It is irregular paint and is NOT acceptable for a home loudspeaker product.  It is perfect for pro where the speakers are in a dark studio room, frequently moved from studio to studio, often scratched during the moving process and never studied for appearance.  I’ve had consumer hi fi customer buy the pro versions before and return them when they actually see them..  It easily scratches and hard to repair.

The veneer versions in hi fi are a hand done veneer, inside and out (for pressure balance) and are book matched left to right.  This is the part of England of exotic car dashboard manufacturing and the woodwork is top quality.   ATC also does high gloss finish over the veneers as an option on 20s on up.   The goal with our home product is a lifetime of furnture grade speakers.

The pro client does not want to pay extra for a fancy finish that will get damaged anyway..  The cosnumer client wants them to be at least a nice finish even if its black.  We do have a satin black finish in our hi fi line but this is mutiple coats of paint and sanding etc..
