Yes, the Gallo 3.5s hold up very well. My friend brought his pair over a couple of weeks ago and they sounded great. They image well with a wide soundstage and good dynamics. Very impressive speakers. He loves them and I can understand why. If you want to try something different, buy a used pair of something else and see if you like them better.
Are the Anthony Gallo Reference 3.5 still up to it?
Hi. I've enjoyed my Gallo 3.5s for many years but with upgrades to the rest of my system (Gato Audio monoblocks and preamplifier) I'm wondering if I should upgrade my speakers too.
I enjoy 'interesting' speaker designs from a purely aesthetic perspective and am interested in Vivid Audio, Audiovector Trapeze Ri, Aequo Stilla, Lyngdorf CUE-100 and others. They're all very different but sound very good to my ears.
I can't audition those other speakers at home with my electronics, in my room. So I'm interested in any views on whether the Gallos have stood the test of time. Any owners out there still love them? Any who have moved on? Any other thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

I disagree that they are "not that expansive." I find the soundstage to be very wide and holographic at times. I agree though that in standard form the image is much too low. I have overcome this by raising them 8 inches on ballistic rubber blocks. This places the CDT unit at my sitting ear level, eliminating the vertical dispersion deficiency.

I have owned 3.5 for quite some years now and recently upgraded the crossover to incorporate the second voice coil. The caps are top tier from Duelund, Jupiter,Audience XO and Mundorf .The inductors are top tier foils from mundorf and jantzen. These upgrades has taken this speaker to a level I cannot find the words to describe but only that’s it total Amazing. when the second voice coil is incorporated into the speaker as a whole unit it’s a total game changer. My crossover now is external and sits on the floor and I can disconnect the second voice if wanted for comparison in fact I can disconnect the total crossover and I have designed it so it fits into the shipping cartons. The internal wire has been upgraded to Omega Mikro ribbon wire. Ron Bauman at Omega Mikro has extensive knowledge on the Gallo reference speakers and their design. He is an extremely nice gentleman and is a pleasure to chat with.
