@viridian I actually really like that build and may reproduce it 100% so I can gleam the crossover info and not have to mess around to get that right. I will for sure post progress thanks again!
Speaker recommendations like a Simco One / Klipsch+Ojas / Etc
Hi all, I’m looking for an alternative to my Shahinian Obelisks (omni-directional). Something that projects more forward than an omni design. I love huge / wide / deep soundstage, I already have two subs I’d like to still employ so I don’t need a speaker that has terrific bass. I play mostly rock, some jazz, some classical. Room is on the large side and warm in nature.
For sure I don’t want a traditional tower, just not a style I’m interested in (the ONLY exception would be a pair of Boenicke’s but good luck finding those used as I can’t swing or justify their cost new - have a pair you want to part with? I’m your guy!) Not into bookshelf/stand mounts.
I did consider open baffles, but my hunch is they’ll be too similar in presentation to the Obelisks.
So now I’m quite intrigued by the thought of a external horn design - seems like a great alternative to the OBs and a format that would work well to provide the forward large soundstage I seek for the type of music I mostly play (a box/Klipsch sorta speaker is not of interest to me whatsoever). The Simco One’s are ideal - I absolutely love their look and know they would look great in our room, but the cost is bonkers and there’s no info/reviews on sound. I would absolutely consider the Klipsch+Ojas collab but they’re sold out. I started another thread about Shinjitsu speakers which fit this criteria, but again there’s just no info/credible reviews out there.
So what does the Audiogon Community suggest? Feel free to offer up any suggestions, perhaps something I haven’t even considered or know about. Thanks in advance - Rich

FWIW - I listened to the SimCo One's twice this Summer, and compared them to the Boenicke W11. Stefan Simcowitz represents both brands and allowed for an extensive audition, playing all genres of music, on both speakers in 2 dedicated rooms. |
@woutb What a great write up, that answers so many questions for me thank you! |
