Have the itch yet again. $5-6k budget for floorstanders.

Well I've owned around 20 floorstanders over the last 30 years. Ridiculous I know but for me that's the hobby: trying new gear every 1-2 years. Anyhoots currently have Zu DW6 Superfly in my main rig, Wharfedale Evo 4.4 in the small TV room. Have both tube & SS amps I rotate. Yesterday I sold my SVS Ultra Tower (the prior version) ergo gots me thinking, so fun to go shopping, no? I listen to mostly jazz, on vinyl & via Qobuz. Some beats also (downtempo/chill). I used to rock out  but nevermore. Prefer to stay under 100lbs; not getting any younger. I do have a SVS sub the SB 2000 pro btw.

Here's my short list:

  • SVS Ultra Titan
  • MOFI 888
  • Dali Opticon 8
  • Cornwall IV (rich buddy downsizing)
  • Goldenear T66 (owned the orig Triton One way back 2013, dug them, had to downsize for a move)
  • Dyn C2 (wildcard, never heard em, wish I could audition)

Anyhoots, who wants to chime in?

Another vote for the Philharmonic BMR Towers, but I recommend going for the HT version. The HT version can play louder, is lighter and higher in efficiency. I have owned both versions and the HT sounds slightly superior to my ears but takes longer to break in.

Other strengths of the Philharmonic brand are resale value and packaging quality.

I really like my Closer Acoustics OGY/BOB set up (two BOBs) and I think they look good too. The sounds is sublime. I am pretty interested, as well, in the PureAudio Project 15, as I have medioum sized spaces to fill with sound (not too large at least) and I have grown to like the open back/open baffle designs. I am also enjoying vintage Ohm Walsh F3 speakers as well! I look forward to hearing what you do and how it goes for you. Tim

Even though they are a bit heavier at 144 lbs. a pair of vintage JBL L-300's or the studio monitor version JBL 4333 you can find for $5-6,000 are just amazing. The 300's are the first home version speakers they made and are just beautiful. 15" woofers and smooth mid's and high's. They may need refoaming and I would upgrade to the Crossover Chef's crossovers , he takes 3 mo or so to deliver but worth waiting for , find his ad on eBay.
