I live in Chicago. The two audiophiles that I know have completely different tastes in music. I have visited them each once, listened to their systems , and had each over once. I don’t think anyone enjoyed the musical parts of these exchanges as opposed to the fellowship. I listen almost exclusively to Classical and I recognize that 99% of the World doesn’t. Combine that with the fact that the percentage of people who care about sound reproduction is even smaller, and this becomes a solitary hobby. However, I somehow manage to fill the time getting into pointless arguments with total strangers on the internet
Anyone in this hobby lonely like me and wish they could “hang” with a fellow audiophile?
I had to ask this question. Because that’s where I’m at currently. I created a nice little smartly tuned system that I’d love to play for others. As well as a knowledge base that’s strong enough now to listen in educated fashion to others’ systems as well. I just wish I could invite someone to listen, or vise versa. But all my audiophile friends are states or continents away. I live in a small town in east coast Florida and just don’t know anyone in my region who’s an audiophile other than dealers.
Any thoughts?
Will post system in next post
Thanks!
Tim

My case is worst... I listen in Classical more to Choral music before Bach... Or eccentric composers Bruckner or Scriabin or not very known one : Simpson or Sorabji... I am a fan of Indian music... Worst i love to death Iran/Persian music ...I can indulge in Japan, China and African music... I dislike most pop/rock/heavy metal or almost all commercial hits more than one listen in the best case...I am very selective in Jazz i prefer world jazz often to great American names...or obscure American Jazz genius... My system is low cost/ but so well optimized i prefer my low cost speakers in my acoustics small room and Headphones to magnepan big speakers in a living room.. Then i cannot be sincere discussing with an audiophile owning them, I am interested by acoustics science over gear by optimization over brand names... Even here i am alone or mostly singular...

At the end we are all alone. We are all singular. Unique. We are all "right". We are all necessary to create a perfect world. We are all here by free choice design. Then we are all potential "friends" if we decided to listen others experiences a bit more that speaking our own. I am glad to be less alone "reading" Audiogon...
