I was just wondering if l could inject some thoughts about the way this thread has developed.
Yes the theme is about recording artists who can inject some irrational rejection or abhorrence upon certain listeners. It stretched to songs or actions that can provoke in some way a vexing physical irritation.
No one has ever commented on another aspect of performance that can trigger a pushback…… Contrived videos that project a false reality. Pure trickery to play on fans who idolise their heroes.
The strangest example that comes to mind and for me is pure hokum, is the Springsteen “live” concert filmed by Scorsese. Courtney Cox (unknown at the time) was “spontaneously” pulled from the audience by Bruce and danced with him on stage. It was meant to appear she was a lucky girl randomly chosen to butch up the performers sex appeal. She was in fact pre-chosen by the director for dramatic license and it was a contrived performance.
That video always makes me feel angry and indeed insults the intended audiences intelligence. Pure “hokus-pocus”….typically refers to deceptive or misleading actions words or rituals, often with a sense of magic or trickery. 🪄
By the way l like some of Bruce’s songs, but that particular video just doesn’t cut it for me. It would have been better if that segment had found its way onto the editors cutting room floor.
