Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too?

Austrian performer Johannes Pietsch won the 69th Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night while Israel's Yuval Raphael came second after a tense showdown at the Grand Final in Basel, Switzerland.  

Pietsch, an Austrian-Filipino opera singer who also goes by the name of JJ, sang "Wasted Love" in a ramshackle dingy amid strobe lighting on stage, earning 436 points. He beat Israeli entrant Raphael as she finished second with 357 points, while also winning the public vote section of the competition.

The top five included Estonia coming third with 356 points, Sweden with 321 points and Italy with 256 points.

The Grand Final included Raphael singing her power ballad, "New Day Will Rise."

So, do the winners of this contest get a record deal? 

Say what people will of Bob Dylan and Rod Stewart and some of the others, you have to admit they have distinctive voices, instantly recognizable. For fame and fortune, sometimes that is a good thing, even more important than sounding good. That one guy's cat is a good judge. LOL. 

So many pop stars of today (when I can stomach listening to a pop station for a while) all sound the same.  Someone coined the term "Sad Girl Starter Pack".

Yes the winner will always get a record released in their home country. In the older days of the competition a 7” single for the pop charts, 

Depending upon the language chosen for the song (which can make a huge difference for the whole of Europe) will determine how many other countries deem it commercially viable. 
The competition has become bigger and more expensive to produce for the winning country who has to host the next competition. Ireland won it many times and a burden on the TV channel there to keep on hosting. The cost was so immense it was said that the station didn’t want to win the next years competition.

The show was renowned for some countries bias and extreme political ideals which in the judging and voting was plainly obvious and unfair. That’s why the public vote was introduced (and a money spinner), but that has made no difference at all. I mean how can some countries get zero public votes?

The Eurovision Song Contest is just a pouting and posturing spectacle where actual lyrics and musical performance can come second to plain crassness.

To be honest l do not bother to watch it. I just tune in at the end to view and laugh at all the stupid voting. Personally for me, the only entertaining part is watching the “lovey dovey” blown 💋💋💋and ❤️❤️❤️ from the artists, plus the frenzied gesticulations of the screaming, madding crowd.

I can honestly say, The European Song Contest is a programme l just can’t watch.
 

Afterthought….

I have just realised…. There is something worse than listening to Edith Piaf.

If anyone is unaware the Brits and French absolutely despise each other. Going back further than the 100 years war (imagine over 100 years of war) finally settled at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 with Britain controlling most of France.

Then ABBA come along and won the ESC with Waterloo which marked the annihilation of Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, 1815. Napoleon is THE French hero and if you're looking for a fight just slag off Napoleon to a French guy.

France never recovered from Waterloo and ABBA and to add further insult the Paris to London cross channel train terminates at Waterloo Station in South London.

Status Quo don't know if they made it to the States but they are terrible.

Agincourt did not end the 100 Years War. 1337-1453

Not a total 100+ years of fighting. It was on and off with long periods of peace and status quo (thank God we didn’t have the pop group around that long)

William the Conqueror came over on more than a holiday in 1066 because he got fed up of living in his own 🏰 in Normandy. Good old Anglo-Saxon interbreeding for nearly 400 years and a new line of “English” (not) kings.

So you could say it was Anglo-French fighting French at Agincourt. Swings and roundabouts for nobles and their serfs. Don’t mention Trafalgar Square north of Waterloo Station…..you might upset the Spanish.🇪🇸

Washington is a district in Northumbria in England, the USA version is a fake...or is it the chicken or the egg syndrome?……Things aren’t always what they seem to be. Ha Ha
