Last but not least, (actually it may or may not be least, I never heard of the guy, "Harish Raghavan"; "Calls For Action";)

Phineas Newborn Jr. : I have several of his CDs. Good player, But, he spent too much time in the upper range. The recording had little dynamic range. Some of the tunes contained too many flourishes. Almost as bad as Tatum. If there are no horns, the piano player cannot just tickle the high notes. There must be more power!!! Think Oscar and Gene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlUUbylwdnc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfNIVdnz1FQ But, a good album, just needed more weight from the piano. Cheers |
The current state of Jazz reminds me of the current state of politics in the West. Jazz used to be for working class folks in night clubs. Now, if for 'elites'. Left-wing and left leaning political parties used to be for working class people. Wages, conditions, unions etc.... Now there are for the elites in the universities and professional 'Political activists'. Most of whom have never had a job in their lives. Art imitating life?? Cheers |
