Tool - Lateralus

Category: Music

If you are a fan of Tool, or like progressive/ alternative/ hard rock music, this newest release is a must have. I have listened to the complete cd at least 15 times since its May 15th release and each time through I hear new details in the recording that I previoussly hadn't heard. They definitely explored uncharted territory in their songwriting and creativity. Most of the songs are fairly long in length from 5 minutes to over 9 minutes with total album length clocking in at 79 minutes. You can the influences of Yes and King Crimson thoughout the disc. I'd say that it is also one of the best sounding rock albums that I have heard in a long time. It was mastered at Gateway Mastering (Bob Ludwig's company) and is HDCD encoded. I'd highly recommend this disc for any of you "heavier" music lovers. It makes the 5 years since Aenima seem well worth the wait.

I just picked the album up today. The radio station (99x) here in Atlanta has been playing "Schism" and I was definitely wanting to hear more. I guess after seeing the art work on the cover though, I am not sure if this is some type of Satanic cult stuff. I really like the music but will toss the CD if I find out that this is the case.

I know the band is touring because they just played Atlanta last week. Do they seem like they are trying to make a "religous" statement? Or are they just making some great Rock?
Personally I think the new Tool album is quite weak, at least for Tool that is. I would expect something a lot better after 5 years since Anima, maybe Maynard used up all his good stuff on A Perfect Cirlce?
Bad news about the vinyl. I won an auction on eBay for one which was to be sent out on June 5th, the day it was supposed to be released. For some reason BMG has canceled it, don't know if this is just temporary or what. Sounds like it might be awhile before it available. Damn it, I wanted one too.
Gregg, I don't think they have anything to do with any religion be it for god or satan. Although if you are religous you might find some of the lyrics offensive, but I don't hear them promoting satan either. It's just music, enjoy it. Also very good recording, I was especially stoked to see it was mastered at Gateway.
No money, thanks. I really like the CD. It remindes me of some of the older Rush stuff. It is nice to hear a group of excellent musicians really jammin!
