Would self quarantine be a challenge for an Audiophile? Home detention even a punishment?

With all the talk about people having to self quarantine, I started to think about what that would mean for an audiophile, and Would it even be much of a challenge?
Normal human being - “I had to self quarantine for 14 days and I’m ready to strangle somebody.”
Audiophile version - “I cleaned so many damn records I had been meaning to.... adjusted my VTA and azimuth and my system sounds better then ever, and after listening to the entire Miles Davis and Coltrane’s recorded output, I realized I could have left the house 2 days ago.”

And would some white collar criminal on home detention even be considered being punished? I’d be so content stuck at home with great audio system, home theater projection, laser light and planetarium show, pinball machine, infrared sauna, massage chair, I may decide to commit some “victimless” financial crime just to play with the toys I don’t always have time for.

mahgister,

I am not trying to diminish the potential value of that medication or said physician. Quite the opposite. However, sometimes idolatry has to be kept in check with facts. There were many miraculous ideas over the ages. Some have proven to be wonderful, others not so much. Life would be much easier if hydrochloroquine worked, no doubt about it, but there are a few more details that may need to be ironed out before jumping on it. Things are not that straightforward.
mahgister,
"Who read Chinese science papers in February?"
Lots and lots of people. Lots of them. With immense interest.
mahgister,
"...in the nearfield of other human being.... isolation kill morals..."

Some of us would not mind a little more isolation from other human beings.

To go back to the topic of this thread, my findings about isolation are that Bluetooth speakers are a great thing.

"Thanks to be patient with me...."
It is easy to be patient with you. Just don't become a patient, please.
"Everything that arrives is going in at 140F for 12 hours..."
That is what you call a proper burn-in.
Being stuck in the Hamptons for a month does not seem like much fun.
mahgister,

For the person entering the room, chloroquine is a nice thought and truth about it may be a little less optimistic than it is in your head. What some governor or president says about it is a trivia, not a decision-making knowledge.
"...what should the payback be for the lying, evil, communist regime in China be?"
That the brave keyboard warriors take a trip and ask that on the Tiananmen Square as any righteous man fighting for the truth would.

Instead of courageously posting such insults on an audiophile website half the world away. Don't be a wimp, what do you have to lose? Even coronavirus situation is more favorable there now. They took evil care of it.
"Well, I heard that New York subway is working..."
At least they have public transport so people can get to work. It is a big place and not everyone has a car. Subways are, apparently, quite empty. Streets are quite empty, too. Sometimes, all you can do is what you can do.
mahgister,

"...The good news is modern reanimation medicine has proven that there is no death..."
Enjoy it, just in case there was a glitch it the study that proved it. Better safe than sorry.
"She told him verbatim !, He turned around to the students trailing him and said , "learn that lesson" ."
Some anestehsiologists are simply better than others, and vice versa.
Actually, my sentiment comment was about the second part of mahgister's post.
mahgister,
"And yes I pray for those health care personal, true heroes even in normal times..."
Huh, that is some sentiment. We apparently do have much different view of everything. Praying is a little less useful to them than what you may think. Still, they surely appreciate your caring manner.
mahgister,
"Hospitals around the world because of sophisticated reanimation technique has established beyond reasonable doubts the survival of consciousness..."
Which world is that? Not this one, it seems. Maybe geoffkait's future world?
mahgister,

No worries, but google may be misleading. Holding onto the straw to fend off the thoughts of one's own mortality may be comforting, but it may not be reality-based. However, if that helps you get through the scary day, not much harm done.
"We're all starting to sound like a bunch of softies. 😄"
To me, it seems like people with lots of experience in dying and resurrecting having a discussion.
mahgister,
"I am a bit nervous like all of us in quarantine …."
It shows and it is expected, but you should be relaxed while in quarantine. You may have more reasons to be nervous when not in quarantine. Strangely, I find people who go out and about, including around people with this particular virus, much more focused and much less paranoid.
mahgister,

Whatever floats your boat. From outside it does seem like you are overconscioussing it.
mahgister,

Not being humble is one of the last things I would associate with you. Simple word may be "overthinking". Come to (over)think of it, even I started liking my new word invention.

I doubt you truly want to discuss these things with me. We have a very very different view of things and events. Yours is a little more fluid and more suited for casual conversations. Mine is a little more down to the Earth surface, pragmatic, and calm. Wash your hands, do not be too nervous. No need to survive the virus and end up with stomach ulcer because of that.
"I heard through the grapevine Victoria’s Secret will start producing masks."
That may be their deus ex machina. They were about to collapse.
mahgister,

No need to apologize. I have fun reading what people think and how they perceive events. For now, it seems like some kind of reality show for most of the participants here.

If you notice, this thread was much livelier while problems were anticipated. Once it started hitting, it became more quiet. Have people gotten tired of thinking about it, petrified, or moved to other platforms?
"...rich and powerful people all across the country are easily and quickly getting themselves tested."
What do they use those test results for?
geoffkait,

Well, I have been babbling about ridiculous hysteria of people demanding tests for weeks now. This, pretty much, summarizes my posts through these few (since then deleted) threads.

To be fair, I do have an unfair advantage when looking at this.
mahgister,

You are really a nice person, but I truly do not have luxury to depend on prayers. Even thinking about my own soul seems like a waste of time and putting bets on hope. Instead of "I hope", it becomes "we'll see".
geoffkait,

"Some go so far as to warn that widespread testing at this point could threaten the U.S. response by burning through precious supplies just as a tidal wave of sick people descend on the system..."

Could you remember where you read it first? (hint: on audiogon a week or two ago)
chrshanl37,

"Glupson perhaps you should stick to the lame dad jokes."
I will let you keep the monopoly on lame jokes. I cannot compete with your talent.
millercarbon,

"The definitive test for the China virus."
Not really the definitive test, but with a high index of suspicion, if I read everything correctly some weeks ago. I may be wrong, but not by much. Definitely an interesting read. In the end, what to do with it?

mahgister,

Current load is more on protective equipment than on ventilators, I think.

As far as the medication goes....we’ll see.
mahgister,

Maybe you can start an oxygen company. All those ventilators will need something to pump. Maybe Praxair et al. will also announce shortage.
mahgister,

As geoffkait mentioned, you are a bit too quick on the keyboard. And on catching on fire. Not everything is what it is portrayed as. Take a deep breath, see the other side of it, and then make a decision. Be ready to change the decision in the middle of it all.
"...which will be used primarily in hospitals and emergency rooms."
Huh, maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel after all.
djones51,

Yes, we needed 330 000 000 tests.

"I don't get my news from audiogon forums."
I look at audiogon threads as some sort of Reader's Digest. In ten posts you can get the latest news, feel the current sentiment in the society, etc. It is useful, in fact. Much more streamlined than other news sources. Once you see an interesting idea, you look it up elsewhere to expand the knowledge.
djones51,

In the country as large as U.S.A., that testing might have been useful in the days after it started in Wuhan. Afterwards, the cat escaped from the bag. No Jerry would catch that Tom. Not even asvjerry. Instead of focusing on producing protective equipment, news were focusing on babbling about how inadequate response it was not to be able to test everyone who wanted it. And even audiogon crowd took the bait.
millercarbon,

"So there glupson, knock yourself out. Everyone else as well."

I forgot to mention, that is what I was talking about when I said you get Reader's Digest of information here. It just happens that I knew this one about CT, but it does not make it less informative. I suppose many did not know about those findings.
mahgister,

Nobody prevented you to start making masks and face shields and make a nice retirement within a few weeks. Did you really need someone to hold your hand and lead you to it? There were signs, there were calls for it, there was not much response. It is much simpler to find another person to blame and miss the target altogether.

If there are no eggs in your grocery store, do you blame Justin Trudeau or the guy who has chicken in the yard and who did not get up early enough to bring eggs to the store? Is it expected that that person will blame the prime minister for not waking him up?
"...but the technical term is Covid19...."
Technically, it is not a technical term.

mahgister,

"You have good taste I am with you for Balenciaga... :)"
I am more for shabby chic. I'll take 3M. A box of them, if you have.
mahgister,

"...and the doctors they all said they lack basic things and direction at the federal level..."
Yes, basic things are lacking. Nobody saw the opportunity to make them. Direction at the federal level is useless for person entering the room with a patient.
mahgister,

I am not accusing you of anything, but it is hard not to notice obsession with chloroquine while protective equipment is much more pressing issue this week. Hopefully, some of that will be coming within days. Basically, I am trying to gently steer you towards the current problem. Chloroquine will be on the agenda very soon, but today is not the day to whine about it.
brayeagle,

I am sure they are aware of it, but they may not know it may be empty at 7am these days. As long as they are over 60.

https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/columbuscircle

It is steps from them and they even offer delivery.
"What happens when the police or the military step in to lock down the population?"
Pandemic dies down.
Maybe preparations have worked somewhat U.S.A. is getting into this better prepared. Impossible to know if good enough, but better.
