Mac amps holding their value???
so bought a multichannel mc amp a couple yrs ago. And now upgrading to large monos, maybe from mac.
i can get abit below 50% of what i paid.
Clearly, newer mac amps do not retain value and they are fricken heavy beasts. I see so many other credible amps, that are substantially lighter - why is this ??? |

Have seen a great 30k amp used for $12k, very tempting, but still 12k.

but what about mac tubes vs their ss. Preferences? they do well with ss but say it sounds tubey. So get the damn tubes. Tubes would seem better. Preamps are better with tubes. |
Whats perplexing is how difficult it is to try a variety of amps, and then match em up to your speakers.
most buy on blind faith, i suspect. I have.
industry needs to solve this problem. Inherently limited options. doubt many are able to preview many amps.

So i own 10 b&w spkrs to date, and approaching my 4th mac amp. They get along. And love driving audis, owned 3 thus far.
Learned alot about cars herein tonite.

C1100 has a phonostage, very good one i guess, dont want it. Crazy to get it and have all that mass and tubes that i dont need.

A high quality revealing system will reveal differences. Try eliminating reverbs in room, makes it easier to hear component quality changes.

Dagostino is very pretty. Wilson speakers are kinda ugly. GAT from conrad johnson is dated. Mac can be too iluminated. Tubes are cool. Nagra preamp is industrial, yuck. Audio research is cool. Lumin x1 is sleek and nice looking. |

Since the output transformers allow for 2 4 or 8 ohm (i use 4 ohm) variations in speaker needs, why do they have separate connects for each?
why not a single/universal connect to speakers that can handle all 3?.?.? |

using 600 watt monos, so 4 ohms good to do. Interesting that using 8 ohms connection would raise decibel level
does increase in damping factor going from 8 to 4 ohms impact ‘open nature’ of sound? Ie. Need more watts to push thru and fully realize dynamic demands of frequencies

Arc is in same camp as mac. Appealing optics trump merits of equip.
Arc fails big time due to tube maintenance issues. It has a congested sound due to overpowered internals. Mac much better with longer tube life by far.

Omg, mc is a great speaker. Why people pay 20, 30k for monos astounds me. Better spending on a preamp/speakers.
maybe debating tubes vs ss in their line has merit. But better doing a tube preamp.
Side comment - amp racks without casters is dumb.

Seems the new, yet to be shipped c12000 preamp is inexpensive/cheap ($16k) compared to other 2 chasis preamps. Is this high end?
would prefer a linestage. Ss vs tube feature is cool.
