Raymond Leppard conducts Boccherini - Six Symphonies. 3 LP box set. New Philharmonia Orchestra. Philips, Netherlands pressing. Unknown release date.

Great set.
Pulled out one of my two mysterious South Korean box sets.

This LP : Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 by Salvatore Accardo. Kurt Masur conducting the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig &
Saint-Saens Violin Concerto No. 3 by Arthur Grumiaux. Manuel Rosenthal conducting Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux.

Originally released by Philips and Philips Label. Fantastic pressing.

Another from the South Korean box set.

Dvorak - Cello Concerto in B minor with Pierre Fournier, violicello. George Szell conducting the Berlin Philharmonic &
Bruch - Kol Nidrei OP. 47. Jean Martinon conducting Orchestre Lamoureux, Paris

Originally Deutsche Grammophon
OK, tonight I cracked open my DECCA Solti-Edition Vol. 6 box set. Well, actually it’s been sitting open in front of my rack.

All Beethoven Symhonies tonight, sides 23-30:

Symphony No. 3 Erocia  Wiener Philharmonic 1959
Symphony No. 4 London Philharmonic 1960
Symphony No. 5 Wiener Philharmonic 1959
Symphony No. 7 Wiener Philharmonic 1966

One of two of these Solti DECCA box sets I got off someone on eBay in near M- condition for about $35 per box shipped of 18 LP’s each set. Usually go for $85 min....more like $100-120 per set. Just one of those gems I’ve found on eBay.

@slaw

Any of you tried www.audiophileusa.com

Thanks Steve, I’ve bookmarked it. Yea, a bit higher in price, but may be worth it.

I’ve been checking out Presto Classical for new classical stuff, and they usually run specials.

There comes to a point where buying from sources like these may be worth it over the long haul. I just love getting 6-12 albums in great shape for $25, or less 😉
@bdp24

I’m still wary of ebay

It depends. If you find a good reputable seller on eBay, it isn’t a bad way to go. I just bought a batch of classical LP’s from a seller on eBay, whom I’ve bought from before, they are always in very very good shape, and also good pricing. He also play grades all his LP’s, not just a visual. If there is ever an issue, he seems very open to listening. Finding these smaller volume sellers on eBay is nice to find. In general, I’ve had pretty good luck on eBay.

On the other hand, I’ve usually purchased through Discogs, but my last three or four purchases have all had issues. Poor grading, a strange ‘film’ on one of the ‘M-‘ albums I bought, that was probably a pressing issue, and unplayable, and the last, a nice deep knife cut though one of the LP’s, probably done during packaging, and probably a utility knife. I sent the seller pics, and he blamed me (in a very unprofessional way) for doing the damage opening the box and trying to rip him off. Seriously. Strange thing was, all the others were fine, and some of the best graded LP’s I’ve bought.

Not sure what is going on on Discogs, either I have ran into a batch of bad luck, or perhaps the overall quality of sellers are not up to par, and I’ve just been more lucky prior. I still have a couple other batches coming from Discogs sellers I’m trying out,  and hoping I can find a good reputable dealer I can do repeat business with......or, as you, get out there and find good local shops. We do have a few in the Cleveland area, but many seem over-priced for used vinyl.
@noromance

+1 almost bought a Wilhelm Furtwängler mono box set this past week.
McCoy Tyner - Time for Tyner. Blue Note reissue/remaster 1986 (original 1969)
OK, was catching up on all my other media formats as they have sat ignored, but the SOTA kept calling me. So, took the cover off her....

Grateful Dead - Europe 72. WB 1972

Had to hear some Jerry licks.......on analog.
Freddie Hubbard - Reevaluation: The Impulse Years. 2 LP compilation. Impulse 1973

@sbank

Wow! What a great Christmas gift!

Very nice Spencer. Never heard that album before, but as an MJQ Fan, I should check that out.

Norman Greenbaum - Petaluma. Reprise 1972

Dang, first time played on the new rig, and that sounded fantastic
@noromance

Furtwängler’s certainly an interesting character. Close to Hitler, undisciplined, brash and unpredictable. Yet magnificent.

Yes, quite the controversial conductor (and composer, but to be honest, I’m not a big fan of he orchestral works). But in reality, he wasn’t the only one. I find studying the lives and personalities of conductors and composers as interesting as the music itself.
@slaw

If you remember, I got all of the Norman Greenbaum lps (WLP) this year. They all sound mighty fine.

I didn’t realize you bought all of them Steve. But yea, it’s interesting that his music largely went unnoticed, except Spirit in the Sky, but he was creating well recorded music. Yea, he’s quirky, and corny, but that’s part of the charm.

Been desiring Williams recently, so, here goes….

Sir Adrian Boult conducts Vaughan Williams - Symphony No. 9. The London Philharmonic Orchestra. Everest repress, probably early 60’s, originally 1958.

Sir Adrian Boult conducts Vaughan Williams - Pastoral Symphony (No. 3) / In The Fen Country (Symphonic Impression). New Philharmonia Orchestra. Angel 1968

Sir John Barbirolli conducts Vaughan Williams - Symphony No.5 In D Major. Philharmonia Orchestra. Angel 1962

@sbank

The shocker for me was that Milt Jackson plays piano, not vibes on that album. I didn't even know he plays piano. Geez, what a talent.

Wow...Really? Now, that is interesting. I didn't know he played piano either.

More Solti...

Solti conducting Mendelssohn Symphony #4, Italian & Schubert Symphony #5. Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. London 1965
Playing the last 2 sides of my Solti-Edition Vol. 6 box set before it goes back on the shelf.

Bartok - Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta & Tanz Suite. London Symphony Orchestra 1969 DECCA
Herbert Blomstedt Conducts Nielsen. 3 LP box set. Symphonies 4,5,&6. Danish Radio Symphony. Seraphim 1975

Allman Bro. - Fillmore

That one is arriving Thursday. ;-)

......Eat a Peach.....it was mostly side 1 that sounded a bit flat. Interesting. Mountain Jam  does kick some butt.
Long day....but....this came today....

The Allman Brothers - Eat a Peach. Capricorn, reissue, probably 1974.

Surprised, but this was recorded/engineered a little flat. Switched my trusty iFi Mini Tube 2 to push-pull mode, and that helped bring some punch to it.

Pretty nice condition of this set though. Pleased to have it in the collection.
Another new arrival today....

Pablo Casals in Concert. Schubert - String Quartet in C Major / Beethoven - Trio in B flat, Trio in C Minor, and Sonata for Piano and Cello. Murray Hill 1972. 3 LP box set.

The vinyl in this box looks unplayed. Excellent condition and great recordings. Nice and ‘raw’ but nicely mic’d and recorded. Feel like you are there.

Just realized I already have the Schubert in this set on a single album, but this may sound a tad better. Nice.

@reubent

I haven't had to click-a-pic captcha in a while. Selective based on perceived danger of the poster? Who knows?

I must be very dangerous then. 😁

János Ferencsik conducts Kodály - Balett Zene & Szimfónia. Orchestra of the Budapest Philharmonic Society. Qualiton 1965, Hungarian release.

Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducts Bach - Brandenburg Concertos 1-6. Concentus Musicus Wien. Telefunken 3 LP box set, German pressing 1982
Juilliard String Quartet - Debussy String Quartet in G minor & Ravel String Quartet in F. RCA Victor Red Seal, Living Stereo. Reissue (original 1960) am guessing late 60’s per label.
@slaw

Canned Heat "S/T"

have a few Canned Heat LP’s on my wish list. Just haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
I can already tell ‘Live at the Fillmore East’ is going to become a favorite. Duane really was a master at that slide. His lead ain’t bad either.

Sir Simon Rattle conducts Britten - Young Apollo / Canadian Carnival / Four French Songs / Scottish Ballad. City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Angel 1982

Well, this was a very long week.....but, today, I reviewed a big batch of ‘new’ vinyl in the mail, so looking forward to this weekend....finally. Should be fun.

I didn’t play any, but looked through them quickly, and all are really clean. This looks like a nice haul.

Carlo Maria Giulini conducts Britten - Four Sea Interludes From "Peter Grimes / The Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra. Philharmonia Orchestra. Angel reissue 1980’s, originally 1964.

Szell conducts Dvorak - The Slavonic Dances. The Cleveland Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks, date unknown, but guessing mid-late 60’s per label. 2 LP box set.

man, this sounds fantastic. Mr Szell and the Clevelanders never disappoint

Anthony Collins conducts Elgar - Falstaff - Symphony Study, Op. 68
&
Bliss conducts Bliss - A Colour Symphony
London Symphony Orchestra. DECCA 1971, UK release

Sir Adrian Boult conducts Vaughan Williams - Symphony #6 and The Lark Ascending. New Philharmonia Orchestra. Angel 1967
@slaw

Mott The Hoople "All The Young Dudes" Absolute Analouge

Oh man, I used to have that album, not sure what happened to it. Was one of my favorite albums ‘back in the day’ before I went hippy 😁
Well, I think it’s happening. I’m running out of room in my Ikea Kallax LP rack (what I use it for anyway). When I bought the current rack almost a year ago, just beginning to buy ‘new’ vinyl again, there was lots a real estate. Now, almost full.

Time to buy another I guess. I guess there are worse problems to have.
Sir Neville Marriner Conducts Handel - Concerti A Due Cori. The Academy Of St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Philips, Netherlands pressing 1980
The Music Of Arnold Schoenberg Vol. 6. Robert Craft conducting The Columbia Chamber Ensemble. Columbia Masterworks 2 LP box. Probably mid-late 60’s per label.

Very nice.
@bdp24

I did some digging out of curiosity, and there were actually three bands called The Trolls in the 60’s. One from Chicago, one from Colorado, and the one you are referring to from San Jose. You are correct, they put out one 45 in 1966 with Walkin’ Shoes on the A side & How Do You Expect Me To Trust You? On the B side.z

But, I was confused, the 45 I have was The Troggs, not The Trolls. That one I do have.
Sir Colin Davis conducts Sibelius - The 7 Symphonies + Finlandia, The Swan of Tuonela, and Tapiola. The Boston Symphony. Philips 5 LP box set. Probably released in 1977-1980, Italian pressing.
Budapest String Quartet plays Beethoven 6 Sting Quartets; The Complete String Quartets Vol. 1. Odyssey/Columbia reissue 1969 mono. 3 LP box set. Originally released 1952.
Szell conducts Tchaikovsky - Variation on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra & Weber - Overture to “Der Freischutz” and “Oberon”. New York Philharmonic. Columbia Masterworks, Limited Edition, unknown release date, but per the ‘6 eye’ LP label, probably early to late 50’s. Mono.
George Szell and Leon Fleisher - Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2. The Cleveland Orchestra. Epic 1962 Mono. Near mint condition, and one of my favorites.
