@big_greg

Yep, mine too. Hadn’t listened to it for a while, and was only going to listen to a couple of sides, but once I started listening, had to listen all the way through.

Juilliard String Quartet - Debussy string quartet in G minor, Ravel string quartet in F. RCA Red Seal. Originally 1960, reissue date unknown. Probably early 70’s.
Wolfgang Sawallisch Conducts Schubert - Complete Symphonies (5 LP box set). Staatskapelle Dresden.

Listening to symphonies 3&4, and maybe more. Philips. European pressing, rerelease, probably mid to late 70’s.

Zubin Mehta conducts Tchaikovsky’s 4th. Los Angeles Philharmonic. London 1967.
Reiner conducts Tchaikovsky- Excerpts From The Nutcracker, Op. 71. The Chicago Symphony. RCA Victor reissue, originally 1960.
picking up this box again....

@boxer12

Six Organs Of Admittance / School of the flower

This guy is really interesting. Thanks

streaming some of the musicians you guys have mentioned, who I have no clue about 😁

@sbank

👍🏼 For wild man Stokowski

Earl Scruggs and The Earl Scruggs Revue - Live at Kansas State. Columbia 1972

American String Quartet - Dvorak’s String Quartetes 9 & 10. Nonesuch 1986
Antal Dorati Conducts Rimsky-Korsakov - Le Co D'Or Suite & Borodin - Prince Igor Excerpts. London Symphony and Chorus. Mercury 1973 Italian pressing.

This is quite good.
The Air and Space Museum is incredible. Last time I went I spent 3 days. Hadn’t been there since I was a kid with my brothers and father prior.

Can’t say I have a favorite, except they do have the KC-97 on display, which is a sentimental fav as my father piloted one in the Air Force with SAC.

I did go over to the hangers the last day though, and was most interested in Trueman’s DC-6 Air Force One. Man was that baby tight as opposed to today’s AF1.
Britten conducts ‘English Music for Strings’. English Chamber Orchestra 1969
@jma10780

Found an original mono pressing of Kind of Blue at my shop today, not bad for my first copy of the album.

Nice find, and congrats!
Wolfgang Sawallisch conducts Schubert - The Complete Symphonies (box set). Staatskapelle Dresden. Philips late 70’s (?). European pressing.

I have a Schubert cycle of Shubert on CD by Anima Eterna Brugge, but wanted one on vinyl, so tried this. Thus far this set kicks butt, and is in absolutely wonderful shape. Happy boy ;-)
Leinsdorf conducts Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto. Arthur Rubinstein and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. RCA Red Seal, original release 1964, reissue probably early 70’s.
Neeme Jarvi conducts Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor. Frans Helmerson w/The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. BIS Swedish pressing 1983.

Wonderful recording.
One of a few ‘new’ albums I received today. This is one I didn’t even know about prior.

** The Modern Jazz Quartet - The Modern Jazz Quartet & Orchestra. Atlantic, originally released 1961, this is a reissue, probably from the late 60’s to early 70’s given its label.

I have Three Windows, also with orchestra, but this is also very interesting, and much earlier. Gunther Schiller conducted the orchestra on all but one (and composed side two - ‘Concerto for Jazz Quartet and Orchestra’), that was conducted by Werner Heider. No mention on who the orchestra was, exactly.

Nice addition to my MJQ collection.
Just returned from visiting mom for Christmas.....and immediately warmed up the rig...

You have a lp cleaner?

yep, just a Spin-Clean, but thinking of making a better investment.
Maazel conducts Tchaikovsky 4th. The Cleveland Orchestra. Telarc 1979

Great recording.
@j_damon
Played my old copy of Aoxomoxoa a few days ago. Hadn’t listened to it in a long time, and figured it was going to be in pretty bad shape. But, lo and behold, it is still in pretty good shape. I always liked that album.

Pablo Casals in Concert : Schubert - String Quintet In C Major, Op. 163, D. 956 & Beethoven - Trio For Piano, Violin, And Cello No 6 In B-flat Major, Op. 97 ("Archduke") / Trio For Piano, Violin, And Cello No. 3 In C Minor, Op. 1, No. 3 / Sonata For Piano And Cello In F Major, Op. 17. @tomic601

Your buddy is getting a great TT Jim. I hope he realizes the work you put into it. I’m sure he does 👍🏼

I guess  @big_greg and I can still consider you a part of the SOTA posse regardless 😉

@spiritofradio You know, the sobering part is realizing we ain’t too far behind. But, that makes you even that much more grateful.

That last had me wanting more Leo...

Leo Kottke - The Best. Two album set. Not sure what I’ll play, or maybe all of it. Starting with the ‘singing’ side 4. Capitol 1978
Szell conducts Wagner - Tristan und Isolde, Die Meistersinge Von Nurnberg, Tannhauser. The Cleveland Orchestra.  Epic 1962 stereo
Leo Kottke - 12 String Blues. This, as it turns out, is now a somewhat rare and collectible album. Recorded live at the Scholar Coffeehouse in Minneapolis Minnesota in 1969. Picked it up cheap used in the mid-70’s. It’s now worth 15-20+x what I paid for it, and still in great shape.

Oblivion Record Company 1969.

@puffball08

@bkeske if you’re a Numbers Band fan (15-60-75), I received the remastered version (by Paul Hamann) of “Jimmy Bell’s Still In Town” on Exit Stencil records last week.  Excellent remaster of a live recording at the Agora (the Mistake was downstairs) in Cleveland on 16 June 1975.  They opened for Bob Marley and the Wailers.  You can purchase directly from the Numbers Band website.  The “Jackleg” LP is a Robert Kidney solo and also quite good.

Just caught this scrolling back today. Oh man, I might have to snag that. I have none of their recordings. Hard to believe these guys didn’t produce more and get more recognition. Excellant stuff. Thanks!

Well, after streaming all day, checking out music, time for some vinyl.

Richard and Linda Thompson - Pour Down Like Silver. Island 1975

@slaw

David Crosby "If I Could Only Remember My Name" 50th

Costing me money Steve 😉 Just snagged this. Never had it.

Looking forward to it Joel. Streaming it right now, nice, but am sure the vinyl will be even better.

Sucks about your little collision, but unfortunately no collision is very small with new/newer cars these days. At least you got some good skiing in 👍🏼

Maurice de Abravanel conducts Varèse - Nocturnal, Ecuatorial, & Henri Lazarof - Structures Sonores. Utah Symphony Orchestra. Vanguard 1968
Zubin Mehta conducts Bruckner’s 9th. Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. London 1965

Not a Bruckner fan, but keep an open mind.....and keep trying.
Makes one think deeply on your own mortality.

Life isn’t always fun Uber. I’m sure we have all been there, done that. I think the hardest for me was ‘watching’ my little brother suffer and die of cancer over a 9-12 month period. Talking to him everyday trying to convince him to fight a battle we all knew he would lose. It was harder than my grandparents, or father dying, as ‘it wasn’t suppose to happen’. And was really ‘close to home’.

My neighbor across the street, whom I knew for a long time died suddenly of a stroke this summer. I was shocked, and it made me think my own as well.

Thank goodness for music. It doesn’t cure a thing, but it sure helps sometimes.

Not sure why I bought this box, except it was cheap, and the vinyl is all in great shape. I think I have much of this separately already, but....on impulse...

Karajan Great Symphonies ‘40th Anniversary’ Set with the Berlin Philharmonic by Deutsche Grammophon. I believe it was released in the mid/late 70’s. 6 LP set.

Playing the last of the 6 LP’s, as this one I don’t believe I have (had) : Prokofiev Symphony #5
@tomic601

Thanks for verifying that my SOTA ‘mat’ is actually built into the platter. I was confused thinking mine arrived without one, until I investigated further.

Making many comparisons right now.

Sir John Barbirolli conducts Vaughan Williams - Symphony #5. Philharmonia Orchestra. Angel 1962
