Tekton Design Moab

Ordered a pair just now. In Dark Gray, to which Tammy immediately said, "Oh the Charcoal is beautiful!" Charcoal sounds better than Dark Gray (even though we are talking about the same color!) so Charcoal it is!

My beloved Talon Khorus do still sound awfully good. It will be interesting to see how the Moabs stock out of the box compare with these tweaked and modded warhorses. Both the strength, and the weakness, of the Khorus is using the 10" woofer to cover so much midrange. Its a strength because it makes for a very smooth and cohesive sound. But its a weakness because its asking a lot of such a large driver to go so high. Talon makes up for it with their isobaric design. Mounted inside and directly behind the woofer is another identical driver facing the opposite direction. The idea is this relieves the front facing driver of having to compress the air inside the cabinet. This does allow for a much faster response, and is a big reason for the wonderful music the Khorus produces.

I have a feeling however it is no match for Eric Alexander's ultra-low mass driver array solution. Only one way to know for sure. So we will just have to see!

Thank you jjss49!

I agree. I tend to only come on here when an individual(s) turns the thread into a dialog focused upon discrediting me or what we do.

bdp24, so I'm hearing and seeing you're questioning my loudspeaker knowledge and talents...?! I'd suggest you continue to design your way and I'll be designing my way - we can each focus on what we do best.

You do realize the entire Moab cabinet assembly is constructed entirely from precision CNC cut pieces, right? In other words... it can be done any way we want it to be done.

Respectfully, regarding the Moab loudspeaker, nothing is being overlooked, left out, or forgotten. In my opinion, a great sounding loudspeaker is the sum total of its parts.

For the record... the Moab officially contains over 426" (over 35 feet) in length of internal bracing - it is very well constructed and contrary to a few AG posters here it is actually internally braced - to the tune of 35.5 feet worth.

The Moab has garnered three 2020 product of the year type awards. The Moab and the patented technology that drives it stands on its own merits and does in-fact go toe-to-toe with models costing 10x more - often even measures better than they do too. I’ve witnessed this personally through careful auditioning of our competitor’s rooms and setups while attending hi-fi shows. I do see how the Moab as we offer it could easily ruffle the feathers of some upper-end persnickety audiophile types.

kingdeezie, call Tammy directly. I am busy with production so the information might need to be relayed.

I quit my engineering job to fly solo 15 years ago so Tekton Design is now officially 15. With 13 product of the year type awards in 9 years for 9 different models, I’d say Tekton Design is well beyond the "start-up" phase. We have fantastic products, amazing clients, we’re busy and we’re growing as fast as we can expand - that’s it!

Our patented intellectual property is driving this and it’s a truly exciting time for me personally. I would love to talk and interact with every client that reaches out to me and for years I did. I don’t think it’s a realistic expectation and simply not possible for me to talk or email with every client these days. The reality is you cannot call many great companies and get to talk with the CEO/President anyway. I can even name a few audio companies that are flat-out nearly impossible for you to speak with a human let alone its CEO.

At this time, I employ two full-time assistants and Tammy is the one to talk to if you have Tekton Design inquiries and/or product questions.

Happy listening!

rtorchia, Thanks for refocusing the discussion to the topic. The award-winning Moab is an excellent loudspeaker. Numerous professional reviews also concur the patented Moab and Ulfberht designs perform exceptionally well. Regarding the snipe about us not building our own "drivers" and "cheap Chinese" tweeters this is inaccurate information. We have used purpose-designed transducers in our products for many years and we don't use "cheap Chinese" parts. In my opinion, a great-sounding loudspeaker is more about inspired design, innovation, and the sum total performance of the parts over a woofer, tweeter, capacitor, etc...

Respectfully, I am under no obligation to disclose any of my parts or methods. The multi-award-winning Moab loudspeaker speaks for itself and stands on its own merits.

IMO, the cost or brand name of an object doesn't prove much. For example, Medina Spirit just won the Kentucky Derby - a horse that evidently first sold for $11K. I'm not the biggest horse geek but I do rub shoulders occasionally with a breeder that has produced Kentucky Derby entered horses. I clearly understand taking an $11K horse to the pinnacle of the sport had more to do with the trainer's experience, judgement, and methods. Who disagrees?

Jon Dunlavy used a $14 tweeter in five figured pricetag speakers. Was he crazy or smart like a fox? IMO, he was smart as a fox. The Tekton Design Moab uses the tweeter I personally want running in it - period. We have worked to produce a model [Moab] that is quite likely the best overall sounding $4730 pair of speakers in all of hi-fi today.

Have a nice evening!

It's nice to see the thread is back to talking about speakers.

Respectfully, and again... I am under no obligation to disclose my methods or the parts I choose to incorporate within a design.

I'm told the fabric dome used in the Moab originates from Germany. The motor is powerful and robust and we only use high-quality tweeters that have been designed by top-tier transducer engineers. Discerning a quality tweeter from a "cheap Chinese tweeter" is as easy as discerning a quality nude painting from porn - I PROMISE YOU THAT YOU'LL KNOW IT WHEN YOU SEE IT!

We've used no fewer than six different tweeter combinations in the Moab based upon client requests - the patented array gives us some key advantages here.

Something not being discussed here is how we get stunning results with any high-quality tweeter. The Tekton Design loudspeaker lineup uses at least 16 different tweeter models. For the Moab, Encore, and Ulfberht the tweeter must have an Fs of 500Hz-800Hz, be at least 90dB sensitivity, and linear frequency response. Hmmm... I'm thinking I can pull from 30+ tweeters with specs like this.
