Revel Ultima Salon 2 and Ypsilon Integrated Amp

Hi,

I currently own an Ypsilon Integrated amplifier (Phaethon) and considering to auditioning the Ultima Salon 2. My amp can output 180w on 4ohm and I was wondering if that would be enough to drive these speakers properly and if any of you has a similar setup .

I'd also appreciate other suggestions for speakers with similar characteristics but more on the efficient side.

Many thanks

Not familiar with Ypsilon Phaeton but my concern would be that at 110 w into 8ohms and only 160 into 4ohms indicates a relatively weak current output as the 8 ohm output should ideally double into a 4ohm load. My experience with the Ultima line (and Salon2 especially) is that their low-ish sensitivity rating and complex phase issues are pretty tough on an amp. While I’m sure this amp would work and the speakers will obviously play, it will run out of steam pretty quick and the Salons will not sound anywhere near their full potential as they just soak up watts like an alcoholic at happy hour. Your listening level preferences will be a factor here as well. If you listen at lower average levels you will have greater success than if you like large scale Mahler symphonies at concert hall levels.
I drove mine with a Hegel H360. 250/8 ohms 425/4 and a really high damping factor. my amp ran hot while another salon 2 h360 owner loved the combo so room size, music type and spl expected will all matter. I emailed Harman support asking how much power they recommend and I got a 2 word reply...500 watts.
