REL with Primare question...

1st post on the Gon, thank you all for being a tremendous resource as I’ve set up my system!

I have a REL Q150e, and primare pre and amp (SP 31.7 & A30.2). I called REL and was informed that I cannot use the “high-level” method of wiring the sub, due to the Primare amp’s dual balanced mono design.  The Primare pre seems to lack a “both” setting for the subwoofer, meaning it sends no signal besides LFE thru the sub output- unless I’m just setting it up wrong.

I use XLR cables between the pre and power amp, leaving a pair of RCA main-out unused.  Can I use these to get full signal to the REL, is there a detriment to the sound in any way going to the main speakers, and do I use a y adapter at the preamp with the single line in on the REL?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, you are apparently in Washington State, as am I (Whidbey Island). When I had my Primare SP 31 processor, I just used wye connectors from the stereo left and right outputs into my subwoofer, as I still do with my current Arcam AV 9.

I use the system more for music, and don't worry about LFE effects. You can try this, and see what you think, you may be happy or not, but it works for me.

Dan, I’m just on the next island over! (Camano) As they say, small world... we could throw rocks at each other’s beaches, but it would take 2hrs for me to drive to you, lol.

That was exactly the feedback I was looking for, as I am only running 2ch as well, just want the correct air pressurization that the REL provides.

Thank you!
Chris
You should talk to Primare first!  The black wire at the amp end is the issue..Go to Google and look for connection of a REL (high level) to a
dual balanced mono design.
