RCA Interconnect screen side
Usually RCA IC has screen connected at SOURCE end. I am fine with that.
How about this specific situation:
I would like to connect Step Up Transformer (signal source), passive and not grounded unit with active phono preamplifier - the only one grounded unit in my system.
In this case should I connect screen at the signal source side or rather at the side of grounded unit (phono preamplifier)?

General consensus is to attach the screen at the source. But you are correct for your type of connection. The best point for the shield is the path with the lowest impedance to ground.
Ideally you should test it with some screw type rca connectors. 3 configurations (both connected/source/end) and listen for the best result in your system.

That is also correct and a viable option to test. Or, if you go wild..😁 You could try the JSSG (360) method. You can Google it, but the simple explanation is a floating shield where the endpoints are connected to each other with a small drain wire (thus creating a loop).The 360 variant is to put another shield around your cable (braided copper for example) and solder a drain wire between the end points. Shielding effectiveness is different because there is no pathway to an earth point, but the (mostly external) radiation is looped inside the shield. Works quite good on ethernet and digital cabling.
