Peter Lederman in Second Bout With COVID-19

I saw on Facebook late last night that Mike Fremer told one of his Audio Friends that he heard from Peter Lederman of Soundsmith that he is suffering his second round with COVID.  Peter said he has blood clots on his lungs. That is all the post said.  Here is hoping that Peter pulls through with a full recovery.

With all that you are dealing with, to take the time (and the precious energy) to write a message to us as part of the audio community is just remarkable.  In my eyes and thoughts it elevates your action to heroic and is a statement of your endearing character.

Here is every hope and prayer that this string of 'awful-luck' is behind you and better days are ahead.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

PS/Assuming your are in the Westminster area - DoorDash Food Delivery - Delivering Now, From Restaurants Near You with some open as early as 8AM.

@retipper

I am extremely tired, and came to work today for 2 hours to deal with emergencies" from being closed, and already looking for a large piece of bubble wrap to lie down on. We will see. No idea how much time it will take for clots and Covid residue to resolve. The pile of work here for me is huge.

Mr. Ledermann,

For heaven sakes, you have just survived "full on hand-to hand combat" with one of the nastiest, devious and deadliest enemies the world knows.  You are not 30 yrs old; and even if you were, your body is still going to need some time to recover from this brutal ordeal.

Your passion and commitment to your customers and your work is breath-taking, but for God's sake, please give yourself a break.  Be nice to yourself, take care of yourself, take this very small steps at a time or you risk becoming your own worst enemy.  The work and your customers can wait just a bit longer for the 'sage' to fully return; lean on your staff for support.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery - but please - small steps,

Neil

PS/I have 3 of your cartridges with one back for rebuild (Carmen) - no rush; another (Paua) later this year, and I just snagged a NOS Boheme and yes as your said - it punches way above its price point.  I want you to be around for a long time LOL - I like your product and above all else I admire and respect you as a human being.
@retipper

Mr. Ledermann,

Your poems are just beautiful and I along with others thank you for those, and I along with others also thank-you for your candid discussion of your experience and even in the face of your experience your continued belief in the vaccine(s).

One item to note is that healthcare providers are required (by law I assume) by the CDC/FDA to  Reporting Adverse Events Following Vaccination  Reporting Adverse Events Following Vaccination | Vaccine Safety | CDC and given the circumstances of your situation I would be surprised (maybe naïve) that the CDC would not be VERY interested in your case (assuming the report was filed).  If the CDC was actively involved in your case, it should bring in quite a bit of horsepower, and (trying to keep this light), who knows you may get the personal attention of Dr. Fauci.

Take care,
Neil

PS/You know this site is not up to date when it thinks Fauci is a spelling error - LOL.
@millercarbon,

You are missing one critical detail.  The vaccines are essentially 100% effective in keeping you out of a hospital.  You go into a hospital because of COVID and your risks of long term (long haul) effects increases dramatically.  If your symptoms require a respirator, your risk of 'long haul' symptoms increases exponentially.

This virus is at war with humans, and its an asymmetrical war with it mutating and targeting anyone it can; its tenacity to live is remarkable.  The vaccine(s) are our only definitive defense, and like any war there will always be civilian casualties;  its the unfortunate nature of war.

For those not vaccinated, this virus will find a host; and with the elderly dead or vaccinated, the younger population is now the next target.  Maryland has one of the best COVID data-bases and highest % vaccinated and the results speak for themselves -  Coronavirus - Maryland Department of Health.

People are free to pretty much believe what they wish, take whatever risks they wish, so long as they accept the consequences.  Peter Lederrman who suffered a rare, life threatening reaction still supported the vaccine(s) - a true testament to a brave warrior.  And, Warren Buffet at eve of the 2008 recession and TARP passage said it best - "I would rather be approximately right than precisely wrong".

And I consider myself one not easily influenced.  Probably comes from a past where if mistakes were made, the consequences could be 'significant'.  On a lighter but dark-note, there is always an alternative to global warming, its called a nuclear winter.

@mwinkc,

Thanks for the post.  Good to see Peter back.  Whether one agrees with all he has to say he is always a wealth of knowledge.  I have 3 of his cartridges - Carmen (back for rebuuld), Boheme & Paua, and I have an 'invested' interest is how he is doing.
@millercarbon,

First I have no confirmed evidence/knowledge that you are part of the medical community; if you are published then advise accordingly.  Otherwise,

The initial roll-out of the polio vaccine had its problems, The Cutter Incident: How America’s First Polio Vaccine Led to a Growing Vaccine Crisis (nih.gov).

The Dengue Fever vaccine had issues - The Dengue Vaccine Controversy Explained | Biomedical Odyssey (hopkinsmedicine.org)

Yellow Fever vaccine is not w/o its issues - Reactions to Yellow Fever Vaccine (cdc.gov).

I got the Pfizer COVID vaccine. I would get the Moderna COVID vaccine. Not so sure of the J&J and some of the others. Well aware of the risks. And, believe it or not I have not turned on my TV in 2 yrs. So nice try as they say, but I watch no crap; but I have listened to or read far too much.
@dover,

The United States CDC has a detailed plan for a pandemic that were developed in 2005 -  National Pandemic Influenza Plans | Pandemic Influenza (Flu) | CDC.

"Preparing for a pandemic requires the leveraging of all instruments of national power, and coordinated action by all segments of government and society. Influenza viruses do not respect the distinctions of race, sex, age, profession or nationality, and are not constrained by geographic boundaries. The next pandemic is likely to come in waves, each lasting months, and pass through communities of all size across the nation and world. While a pandemic will not damage power lines, banks or computer networks, it will ultimately threaten all critical infrastructure by removing essential personnel from the workplace for weeks or months.

This makes a pandemic a unique circumstance necessitating a strategy that extends well beyond health and medical boundaries, to include the sustainment of critical infrastructure, private-sector activities, the movement of goods and services across the nation and the globe, and economic and security considerations. The uncertainties associated with influenza viruses require that our Strategy be versatile, to ensure that we are prepared for any virus with pandemic potential, as well as the annual burden of influenza that we know we will face.

The National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza guides our preparedness and response to an influenza pandemic, with the intent of (1) stopping, slowing or otherwise limiting the spread of a pandemic to the United States; (2) limiting the domestic spread of a pandemic, and mitigating disease, suffering and death; and (3) sustaining infrastructure and mitigating impact to the economy and the functioning of society."

Why weren't they followed verbatim?

In America, in times of a national crisis/emergency, like it or not, regardless of advisers, the responsibility falls squarely on the shoulders of the POTUS/Commander-In-Chief; such is the old adage "The buck stops here".
@dover,

Who do you think you are!!! Some foreigner telling me who is an American and veteran and someone who worked for the US Government (DoD) for 37 yrs how my government works. You must be kidding.

Mister what I would like to say is inappropriate and in the name of diplomacy I will bear the burden of your colossal failure to do the same, But make no mistake in matters such as this with your documented evidence, your full identity may not be protected. I wonder what your embassy or appropriate diplomatic representative would think of your behavior as a representative of New Zealand. This is not a joke, you may have crossed the line.

However, since you appear to know so much about my Government, you would do well with reading our constitution and understanding the history & powers of the POTUS as well as appreciating the influence that the POTUS has. By mid-March the Governors of many US states moved to lock-down based on the advice of science and independent of any guidance by POTUS. Congress begged POTUS to invoke the war powers/national emergency act that gives POTUS wide ranging authority to direct businesses, and execute and fund contracts independent of Congress; such is the authority of the POTUS.

You as a foreigner can speak among yourselves, but to try to be my conscious, as an American you are way out of line. Any further communique I will have with you will be through official diplomatic channels. However, in the interest of diplomacy let this be our last communique.

@onhwy61,

Agree - but open a separate thread over at Audiogon Insider that has nothing to do with audio and has no association with an individual.

This thread was to wish Peter Ledermann a speedy recovery.  The current debate has nothing to do with his well being and has nothing to do with audio.
