New Omega E Mat from Perfect Path Technologies

Many of you own or have read of the highly-regarded PPT Omega E Mat, one of Tim Mrock’s revolutionary signal-enhancing accessories. Just prior to his untimely passing, Tim had finished developing a new generation of his Omega mat, soon to be available. Krissy Mrock has asked a few of us to introduce this new mat, here given the working title of The Double Omega.

In distinguishing the Double Omega, we know the original Omega, herein called the single, as a 7.5” by 10”, rather heavy and somewhat pliable mat, a bit more than 1/8” thick and with a vinyl-like feel. One face is glossy white, displaying the PPT logo and Omega name, while the other is black, smooth and magnetized. Sandwiched between these faces is the active material that causes components to reject the EMI that saturates everything in our surroundings. The Double Omega is much the same, with one important difference: the magnetized face has the finely-textured feel of around, say, 220-grit sandpaper. This texture, it is presumed, comprises yet a second active layer of EMI rejection. Presumed—because working details of the Double Omega are not well understood—better yet to know how to apply it.

With the understanding that the single Omega E mats generate field effects from both faces, mats have typically been placed under and over components and vertically over circuit breakers. How you apply the Double Omega will depend on best use and experimentation. In my case, I have removed two single mats, lying side-by-side, from the top of my large Wadia CDP and have replaced those with two Double Omegas. The Wadia is a one-box player that contains a pre-amp, so I wanted that second, strong field effect exerting downward as well as upward. I also have several singles placed underneath, just as before. Going straight to amps, this player is my only source, so I want it fully protected from EMI. Your priorities will differ.

As of this writing, I am only thirty-hours in on placing these Double Omegas, and I can already tell you they are powerful in their prevention of EMI within my digital source. Yet another veil has been lifted—all instruments and voices are even more sorted out in the aural space with new information heard within that space. There is much more decay heard against a new silence behind and between the musicians. I am already so pleased and excited about what the Double Omega E mats are doing. As Krissy told me, Tim was really stoked to have these new mats available. Rather than wait for the the fourteen-day window of improvement, I want to get this intro out so others can relay their experiences sooner.

I removed two of the Plus mats from my breaker and placed one on my conditioner and the other on my amp. Much, much better resulting sound. The breaker box location caused a bit of edge/hardness in the highs. The sound is much better now.  I was told to do this by another mat owner who experienced this same reality. Breaker box location just tipped the level of highs over the top and my system’s smoothness level suffered.

In fact 4 of us mat owners have all heard the same sonic results when we pulled them out of the breaker box.  Owners please try it and see.  It will take about an hour to start hearing the impact. Just worth trying guys.  Just place the mats elsewhere and compare.
MI suggest to remove, put elsewhere and decide for yourself. Give it an hour. The impact in my system and several others was obvious. I never noticed it before as I have tried this before. I have new gear now and removing the mats from the breaker was revelatory. Nothing short of that. These mats are powerful, no doubt. On my conditioner and amp instead of the breaker is a huge step forward in musicality. System dependent, so if any mat owners made system changes, then please look into this change.
No Gate..  No mats in breaker.  All solid state system, not one tube to be found.

That WAS true for me also. It changed with time and/or gear changes. Not sure which factor, time or gear change, caused this sonic reality. I will continue testing however so I can better understand. This is real and mat owners should be open minded enough to try. Use the same open mindedness we expect from others not believing in fuses etc... You will never really know for yourself until you actually try. My system sounded good, many say great, but improved when I removed all mats from the breaker and placed them elsewhere. You decide if you care to be open minded enough test your assumptions and perceived reality.
They have huge impact in my experience. It can easily be heard in my system.
Not consistent with your wishes of others however.....oh well. Just trying to help fellow Agoners who wish to try something easier than replacing a fuse. I know you love your sound and I am happy for you.
It did sound better, but that has changed.  Both are true at the same time. Why? No idea. I changed my gear so perhaps system synergy is at play. Perhaps time, many months, plays a role?
I also have The Truth  preamp with Ecards inside and a separate chassis DIY dual mono power supply for it with a Mat inside.  Love the sound.

I removed the Mats from my breaker box and liked the sound better.  However, I find the Mats sound great inside or on my gear!
I suppose I advertise every time I write a review on Amazon or give feedback here or on eBay. Well, no this is not advertising. Sometimes we read good and sometimes a bad rating or feedback. The sellers on Amazon, here and on EBay all want ratings and feedback. The fact they want it, and sometimes even use the ratings to support their product, does not me or any of us advertisers. It makes us customers with an experience. Like everything in life if your life perception filter is looking for some kind offense, then you will find it. Seems you found another perceived offense to ruminate on.
Good posts folks.   I need to try the new plus mats.  I have 2 of the originals thus far. I like what they did for my system and music.
Yes indeed, we need to stop engaging the folks who have no idea what these mats do because they have not touched, used, or critically tested them over time in their sound system. It’s like me giving an opinion of a restaurant and dogmatically stating it is no good to hundreds, if not thousands of folks, when I have never even set foot in the establishment. Yes, it is that silly and irresponsible.

These mats are easily the best tweak I have heard in my system and are certainly on par with a multi-thousand dollar upgrade of an amp, preamp or other piece of gear. I have done the gear upgrading and swapping thing for years and these mats offer as much if not more positive sonic impact. This is the type of innovation all music lovers should praise and be thankful for.

I was also listening last night with two additional mats and the aural and emotional experience I enjoyed was simply unmatched compared to all my previous experiences with my music and space. I am thankful for this product and the minds that created it. First rate innovation!
I placed a mat on my BPT power conditioner/Balanced Isolation tranny as well as under my Clayton Audio S40 amplifier.  My music sounds more effortless! A wall of sound just swells and expands as I turn up the volume. I can play my music at louder listening  levels with no sense of compression or ear fatigue.  My system is just more natural and pleasing sounding.
I concur with placement on the inside of the door of your breaker box. I also placed one of the original mats on top of my BPT Balanced Power Conditioner with great sonic results.
I would prefer placing them inside the speaker so they don’t mess with the aesthetic appeal of the speakers.   My wife would not allow them on the outside :)

Perhaps they would also be more effective internally? Remove a woofer or two and carefully place internally.   I would use some very strong double sided tape so the mat does not move or vibrate.  Cover the back of the mat very liberally with the tape. If the speaker has acoustic material inside, most do, then simply place the acoustic material over the mat once installed.

Cards could also also be placed in the same manner.  I have them on the backs of my drivers internally.
Many times the true color is beautiful and inviting. This chapter is not done yet and we all know precious little as it should be.
