what about the cabinet?
any cabinet weighing over say 70 lbs is unaccepatle. also all those weird shape cabinets, = marketing ploy = something just ain't right about those weird odd ball shaped cabinets,,, Take the Seas Thor,, has this fancy inner reflexn thing, = not necessary,, just a n basic rear hole tube port would have worked just fine = less build time = better price on cabinet,, Not compalining as the Thor tower is a really perfect size and beautiful finsih cabinet,,I think Tyler should have stayed with MTM or 2 way, all Seas Drivers,,and avoid all those other designs he came up with,,also some of his towers were just too big,, Tyler had the best sounding MTM, 2 way on the market,, sadly he went off ona tangent with big builds and drivers <<other than>> SEAS, Scan Speak, SB Acoustics top drivers. Some of the newest scanspeak W18s, W22;s go for,,<<<$1000 EACH!!!>> wow, thats technology.

The name of a speaker means nothing. Its the actual drivers inside the cabinet. |
However, even high-end speaker designers
All high end commercial (exception of 1 or 2 labs using Demark high value driver, but tese 2 are asking GOLD for their speakers when you can get the kits for $'s)) are using who knows what drivers,,, Most likely <<MADE IN CHINA>> so they can make a profit. No matter how fancy a designer makesa cabinet,, a chinese speaker will sound like a boombox.

If a speaker does not have (feel free to change the order #, all are near equal, I said, near, there are sublime difs) 1) SEAS 2) Scanspeak 3) SB Acoustics as drivers,, not the least bit, nada, interested. Thats how i determine what a speaker is/is not. |
The real question is why do I have to prove it and to whom do I have to prove it?
Look Sterophile past 20 yrs+ and other hifi mags, have started this thing, pumping speakers in such a language where buyers really aren't, sure if the review is accurate. Kenjit is recating to a bloated industry which has preyed on unsuspecting newbies in this hobby. With audacious claims about things that may not be true. ] Post cv19 shutdown, the fishes are biting so much.,. |
+1 Use your ears! When a speaker sounds like music you instinctively know it. Regardless of size, features and specs, if a speaker is properly voiced it just sounds right.
Yes and No a nice sounding, aka <High Fidelity> speaker ,,,will only voice what the other components deliver. A high fidelity amp will relay quality sonics, same with digital source.,, But I might say digital source is much less importance than is the amplification source. For instance,,I was sellinga Yahama 5 cd carosel player, bought it like $50, sold it for $30, tested it out to sell, I was like, wow, not a bad sound.., But with further testing i am sure it would not match up to the Cayin Cd17,, So a good voicing, neutral, natural, low distortion speaker is only as good as the amp/line stage. Keep this factor in mind when discussing what makesa speaker true high fidelity,, and as Kenjit <<repeatedly>> points out,, throwing money ata speaker, may/may not result in true high fidelity. He wants us to be aware of this , that , like the Beatle's sings ~~Can't Buy Me Love~~ , neither can money always buy a high fidelity speaker.
Kenjit likes to emphasize the idea *more expensive speakers, does not always mean higher resolution/lower distortion speaker*

You got what you wanted, as always.
Yep Kenjit sure knows how to push <his> agenda,, Kenjit sure made a success of exposing the speaker <,Industry>, which in these post/current cv19 shut down,, will have a hard boat to row in this cv19 shut down storm mega 6 hurricane.

How do we measure the playback accuracy of any loudspeaker?
Some speakers will sound just as they look, I can tell how a speaker will sound just by looking at the drivers, cabinet construction (= how gimmicky is the cabinet = thrills and frills = puke sound) ,,and price, and size. I already hate large speakers even before I actually hear them, A weird off shape cabinet, already i know i will hate the sound of the speaker. I have 40+ yrs in audiophile, doesn't take me much time to know how a speaker will sound. Each aupdiophile must havea defined set of parimeters, size, weight, drivers employed. Spaekers that employ a tweet sitting on top the cabinet,, I geta good laugh when I see that. As i say I am old school, 2 way, or MTM, thats it, , Thats my set parimeters. My listening room is 8X12, 8 ft ceiling, anything bigger than a MTM /2 way, will not fly. To my ears the best sounding speakers have always been MTM, 2 way. But I am open to a light weight 3 way. 75 lbs is my limit on a 3 way speaker,,,,no, You know, scratch that 3 way idea,, Just a fleeting fancy on a whim,, Back to MTM/2 way,., |
kenjit...You obviously have an axe to grind with the speaker industry
Well when you figure what prices speaker labs are asking lately,, yes we meed to get back to reality. I'm a madisound kit kinda of buyer, I look nowhere else for speakers. = Best bang for the old<< worthless>> buck. |
Kenin Deal has uploaded a YT vid showing off his new speakers. They most likely sound just like they look. Yes i am prejudiced against large speakers. |
