Funny how streaming/digital still chases that analog benchmark.

Funny how manufacturers of streaming and digital gear continues to chase that elusive analog sound. I thought digital was better?

Before you all get your panties in a wad I enjoy both Digital and Analog but much rather listen to an analog source than digital.

So today I see  Innuos Introduces The PhoenixNET – A Network Switch For Audiophiles @ only $3500.00

Guess I do not see the point you can get superior sound for say $2500 or less with a decent turntable cartridge combo and phono stage. Hell Clear Audio has an all in one for $2500.

I just don’t get it and I do not care to either.

Glupson I read your post a few years in the thread. If you want to hear totally fine ana.og vinyl, then PLEASE come to my house. Seriously the offer is open to you. I don't h a very the best listening room or the most confy chair, but I am willing to let you listen to the best that I can reproduce. I am totally willing to put my money where my mouth is because I believe strongly enough that vinyl is enough to stand on it own

The offer is open bro. Take the honest offer.
Oldhvymec .... never a truer word spoken. I wish that I  could afford r2r, but at 60 bucks a pop for tapes I just can't do it. My wee wife would string me up for sure.

I have always wanted a r2r deck, but the price of tape always held me back. I have to be satisfied with Dolby s cassette and hope for the best. Its a very pale comparison to r2r.

You are living the dream in my estimation my friend. Would love to hear your system some day.
@glupson.....uh no. It may have been the "standard" but that does not make it "better".

Hell dude... not having air bags in cars was "the standard" for decades when the technology was available for 30 years. Does that make it "better"?
3500 for a freaking network switch that you can buy from net gear for 50 bucks???

It seems that audiofools and their money are very quickly separated.

I have a new handy dandy audiophile product that I am going to start selling... its a power plug that guarantees fresh electrons into your power supply....PLUS.....each electron is vacuume treated. Hint...its a 2 dollar power strip.

See how impressive that audiophile speel sounded?

To answer your question in a reasonable fashion....digital is an approximation of an analog signal. An lp is not. Yes, digital will sound "fine" but an approximation will never fully sound like the real thing.

Those of you who are streaming fans can disagree to your hearts content, but MY ears know the difference. Yours may varry.
Now I'm getting some popcorn....and another glass of Irish whiskey. This is plumb fun.

@skypunk....I enjoy great sounding audio just like the next bloke. But think about it....ANYONE who knows networking would see right through that bs. Its the "special" individual who would see an add for that 3500 dollar switch and think "its audiophile grade... I have GOT to have me one of them" when ANY network switch will do. Think about it...audio does not use a lot of bandwidth in the networking world. Want a top of the line switch for audio streaming? Cisco 2900... totally configurable switch...20 years old...will handle any digital audio stream you can put through it.

I admit that I do have a knee jerk reaction to stupidity in advertising, especially for companies that try to obviously rip you off. That must be from my EE degree and 27 years in the IT business.

My system consists of a CJ mv55, a proton receiver acting as my preamp, project se box 2 phono preamp. I almost have enough saved for the technics 1200g, after which I save for a dynavector 20x2 and a mcintosh c2300. All well thought out purchases which I can sonically justify buying.

Its the stupid stuff designed to rip people off that makes me grow as thorns and sets them to grinding.

Audio2design .... analog is best. If you don't believe me then just ask me.

Skypunk play nice.... or relatively so.
Audio2design did working for Broadcom make you this much of a douche or were you always this way? I was with you on the network switch thing but bud you have some personality issues here. Does the internet make you bold and brazen or are you like this in real life?
Except  for audio2design for freaking on where someone lives. That ticks me off more than a 777 breaking up over  a subdivision.
Glupso  up to this point I liked you, but now I wouldn't give you you a hug from behind...lo.
And @audio]ooo i am talking about audio lad. Just so there are no mistakes laddy.
Skypunk.....nice house. I had a thorens td150 until the motor died. My speakers are audio nirvana super 15 alnico full range drivers in ported bass reflex cabs almost as big as I am. I haven't heard anything yet that tops them and I  am including Wilson audio..lol. My forever speakers.

Audio2design.. geez doesn't this forum understand blitzed Irish typing? I have to correct my own mistakes.

Listened to a miles Davis album tonight. Sublime. Top that you digital hooligan.
Audio2design .... spoken like a pontificating want to be of EITHER  analog or digital? Might we be a poor batista of questionable descent .... namely not irish? I pose to you this my questionable lad... have you ever heard a fine digital or analog system? My offer stands open to you as well....Irish or not... to hear a fine analog system. I promise to not let your irishness detract from your welcome there lad
I had Cisco 2900 switches running 1080p to my TV with no problem. Do we think that a wee bit of audio would give them the least bit of worry?
Midriff if you have pops and clicks then you really need to clean your vinyl dude. Playing dirty vinyl is like loving a woman who isn't clean. Sure you can do it, but you won't like the outcome.

Getting very mellow (blitzed) off of a bottle of a spirit distilled by the countrymen of my forefathers....Irish whiskey. Please excuse any out of the ordinary pontificating on my part.

Dirty vinyl and unclean women do hold true though....some things you can't leave in Vegas bro. You just can't.
He freaked on where somewhere somewhere somewhere someone lived.  He is a douche nozzle. Not the douce proper, but just the nozzle.
Actually I don't care. Too drunk to care unless you freak on where someone lives the`it'll be on you like white on rice.... or audio2design...lol
Cakyol..... come to my house bro.... bachs to tocatta and fugue in d minor on VINYL will cure constipation. Come check it out.....seriously.

@audio2design........ @audio2design........ bro you are so full of sea monkey poo its amazing .

@glubson.... might want to see the mess before  offering to help clean it up my friend. The offer does stand if you are in the area. It would be nice to share my audio system with a fellow audiophile.

Has-been... get'em dude... make him wear the skirt.... a frilly little tartan thing. Lots of rouge cut the sailors like that sort of thing...

Audio shouldn't be a competition. Listen to what you like. If digital totally totes your goats then so be it. If analog gets your motor running, and it should because its the best in the world, then fine. Just don't make assumptions based on what you read written by someone else. Buy the equipment, do your own UNBIASED tests, then sell that digital cap and upgrade your phono cartridge.
My dear glupson I live in Durham N.C. My modest house is open to you always. We need a new board walk, a new kitchen, but what we have is open to you. We may be messy, but we are honest and true as are the Irish fron which I come. My equipment isn't the best but I can be proud of it until I can do better.
Virtual hug to skypunk.... hug from the front. Not the creepy kind from behind.
No, directed at audio2design.

I want to hear your r2r setup because it may be the only time I get to hear one that is properly set up. I have nothing but props for you bro. Do you have an Otari deck? You mentioned a 5050, so thats what came to mind. How much refurb did you have to do on it?

I have a real problem with those that poke at how/where others live. Audio2design did that. My house isn't grand by any means, but it's mine. It needs more work, but I am doing the best that I can. I am spending my life's savings on redoing my kitchen so it will be presentable when people come over. So when someone like audio2design calls out someone about where they live, it really ticks me off.

It had NOTHING to do with you bro. Nothing at all. I honestly DO want to hear your system. Digital or analog. You are rocking r2r and for me that is a fantasy/desire of mine and I give you props for it in a major way. I honestly admire you.

Bro my room is suite and very far from purpose built. It sounds freaking awesome. Don't guess, come listen. You will do the nasty thing in your pants.

I have taken this thread to whole other level. You're welcome.
Rita is my true Irish friend there laddy. It makes me hear the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Actually it was a great invention of the recording industry to compensate for the drawbacks of physical vinyl. It does a great job of it too.
I love this forum. You are all good people, except audio2design, and I don't care what audio format you listen to. You are passionate about it and that is what counts. For me.... its analog all the way, but I can respect you other guys, no matter how misguided you are...lol. seriously I really respect you guys except analog2design....he got personal.

All I'm saying unless you are into digital...lol
Cakycom....... PREACH BROTHER!!!! AS A 27 year it professional who knows ios PREACH!!!!!
Yes, I am a douche. An analog douche who doesn't compare his system to others. I am the quintessential Irish douche who would open his home to anyone who loves audio no matter the format. I am the kind of douche that calls out other douches for their douchiness.

If you aren't ready to put up, then shut up bro. I don't mean that in the friendly bro that I give to skypunk, but in the non Irish "you be a major douche bag with a stick up your ass" kind of bro". Seriously... you have never heard my system so how can you ASSUME yours sounds better than mine? For all I know you are listening to a dogs phallus scraping miserably against some worn ass vinyl.

My drunken 2 cents, take it seriously because we Irish can hold our liquor.

Love you skypunk....lots of hugs from behind bro :-)
I'm probably older than you are bud. Petulant behavior is what comes from your corner of the ring.
