DAC for CAL CL-10

Any advise on a used DAC for my system. CL-10 feeding BAT vk3i to McCormack DNA 0.5 dlx to Vandersteen 2cis? Also cable. Want to spend $500-1000, used. Saw a Theta on this site today (cant remember model, maybe BAsic pro III) near the top end of this range. Would want a significant upgrade from built in DAC in CL-10. Can it happen for the money I want to spend?
I have the CL10 and am using the Bel Canto Dac 1. The improvement was significant. They are available for under $1k but the demand is high so the price seems to be a little higher.
Swampwalker, check out these reviews, I think they might help answer some of your questions. Have definitely seen them used in that price range here. The Muse Two or Two Plus would be worthy of consideration. Saw one on E-bay yesterday.Check out review--http://soundstage.com/revequip/duvall02.htm
check out a Cal Alpha, this little unit is by far the most bang for the buck
I agree with the CAL Alpha. I personally use the Alpha with the Delta transport. It's tubes, so you can swap out the tubes and fine tune your sound. The difference a good set of NOS tubes make is incredible. You can find an 18bit Alpha well within your budget. dh
