Building the Audio Note Kit 1 SET amp...

Hi, Folks,
If anyone's interested, I've started a blog with lots of photos, documenting my ongoing build of the Audio Note Kit 1 300B SET amp. If you've ever thought of building any kit before and want to get a feel for what it's like, you're welcome to have a look!

Rebbi,

I am vicariously building your AN kit with you, I only wish I could keep the results! It would be interesting to hear a PCB-built and hard-wired version side-by-side to see how much difference hard wiring would really make. I'm probably wrong, but I doubt it make THAT much difference.

You are evil, though, in that you tempt me to pad my PayPal balance with a purchase of this kit, but my commonsense side is winning out, thank God.

I will be watching for furthur intallments of your build blog, I can almost feel my soldering iron in my hand as I read it. Nice soldering joins, by the way.

Regards,
Dan
Yep, the thing is blowing me away. I had no idea what to expect, but when I send it away to fix my mess-up, I will miss it.

I expected a sterile, cold sound, it is anything but cold and sterile sounding. This is really going to sound heretical, but it sounds a lot like my SET 300B with much more power.

Class D has come of age.

My apologies to Rebbi for usurping his thread.

Regards,
Dan
Rebbi, I hope your problem turns out to be just a tube, that being the ideal, then it wouldn't have been something you've done.

I'm going to have to bite the bullet myself, and send my Class D Audio amp back to them to fix a screw-up of mine. I enlarged the solder holes in the amp module for LED's that go on the front of the amp. I haven't been able to get them going (I removed all of the conductor traces around the hole when I drilled, duh! I've been trying to fix it, but no dice). The amp still works though, and sounds great.

Tom, at Class D said send it back in he'll fix it for free. I use it as back-up to the SET 300B. I can't recommend Class D Audio highly enough, their CDA amps sound amazing, and work great in the case of tube failure, you still have tunes, and at a very reasonable price.

Hope your AN returns soon, with a clean bill of health.

Regards,
Dan
Charles, point of fact, the Class D amp is so good, I sold the First Watt M2. And loving it.

Dan
I have enjoyed this thread more than any I can recall here on Audiogon. The comments by Jetrexpro, Grannyring, and others ( and the incomparable insight contributed by Almarg), gives so much validity to the DIY approach.

Even though my skills pale in comparison to those mentioned, my sense of musical enjoyment would be greatly impaired without even my limited DIY minstrations.

Which is why this thread is so enjoyable. I think back on some of my own projects, which all seemed to come with their own set of problems, mistakes, and mishaps, it seems to add to the overall audio, and DIY, experience.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

My very best regards to all,
Dan
Rebbi, I've been checking this space every day since this situation started, and was disappointed at the lack of good news.

I'm glad they got to the bottom of this, I know you'l be enjoying great sound, fashioned by your own hand, very soon.

Congratualtions, regards,
Dan
Hello Rebbi,

I'm enjoying reading this thread, but I've lost the link to your blog. Do you think you can post it again?

Congratulations, and regards,
Dan
