That's a good question because he has had so many different stages in his career. The early stuff suffers unfortantly and pales in sound quality because the best recording equipment in that day was limited. Then in the early seventies, Rocknroll artists in that era that had been stealing riffs from many of the blues artist of the 40's 50's and 60's felt guilty and tried to re-introduce them to another generation which spawned Hooker and Heat(Canned Heat) and The Endless Boogie with everyone from Steve Miller to Stevie Winwood sitting in. Later in his career starting with The Healer he had another rebirth when artists from Carlos Santana to Bonnie Riatt started guesting on his recordings.
In 1971 he released MY favorite album "Never Get Out of These Blues Alive." Guests on it are Charlie Musselwhite, Elvin Bishop,Steve Miller,Van Morrison and playing on this album is John's brother Robert Hooker on organ and Boz Skaggs brother Gino on bass.
I have written to many Record pressing specialty Companies to press this on 180 gram vinyl and the only reponse I recieved back was from Sundazed Records. Hey at least they responded.
