Benchmark DAC1 USB vs. Rega R Dac

Hi,
Need some advice: Benchmark DAC1 USB vs. Rega R Dac

I have an older Plinius 8100 integrated amp (which has a nice warm sound) connected to Revel M106 speakers.
My transport is an older Carver Cd player.

I've heard  the Rega has a warm sound but a little less detailed while the Bench is very detailed and can be a little to revealing and bright.

Thanx, Fred

The Benchmark DAC 3 is so much better than the DAC 1 that I would go for that. The DAC 1 was great 10 years ago.
If you are referring to the DACs now being offered on AG and could swing it, why not buy both and explore what the sonic distinction between these DACs has to offer in your system.  The one less desirable could be sold with little if any loss. The value of the experience may more than compensate for any loss that may occur.
Hey Fred, I was the first one to recommend the Plinius, I am happy that it is working out. I also have a Benchmark DAC1 and it is still VERY good. If you stretch your budget I would also consider the Schiit Bifrost multibit. All Schiit DACs are upgradable so as the technology changes they offer these upgrades much cheaper than avnew DAC would cost. I have both the Benchmark and the Bifrost Uber. Both sound great, I could not say which is better. I might upgrade the Uber to multibit. Having said all that, if you are into digital music, consider the Bluesound Node 2. That could really make your system very versatile. It has a great DAC.
Thanx, I love the Plinius, I spoke with US rep, he encouraged me to trade my 8100 unit for the 880 inspire that includes a dac, but $2600 is out of my range. The rep likes the rega dac but said sound warm but a little lacking in detail. How does the Schiit Bifrost multiunit sound? I'm looking for worth , detail, and soundstage. I listen to mostly CD's. Also, does a transport make a noticeable difference. I'm using a Carver vacuum tube CD from 1993. Lastly, would adding subwoofer muddy my system?
