A friend of mine who accompanied me at CES in January 2002 told me he liked the new Gamut cdp a lot. He did not make a comparison between the two but I know he is familiar with good digital players. He owns an Ayre and has heard many other good players including the Electrocompaniet EMC-1 and Aero Capitole.
I didn't get to hear the Gamut but heard the soon to be released Ayre cdp. I liked the performance of the Ayre but I'm not sure if I liked the front loading feature, similar to the way you would load a cd in a car stereo. I was told the new Ayre will be much less than the current model and priced relatively close to the Gamut. I am currently using the Electrocompaniet EMC-1.
