i know with my PS3 that both the hdmi and optical(audio) outputs are always active even though hdmi can carry the audio signal. i needed to use hdmi for picture and optical for sound cuz my previous pre/pro did not have hdmi. so, i would expect your unit to have all outputs active all the time as well. hope that helps. but you'll know soon enough...
