| Longevity of ownership I got into the high end level about 15 years ago. I've had my first McIntosh piece since 2013 and it's never going away. Other than that, I have a mid fi pioneer from the late 90s in my computer room system, that's almost 30 years old, I bought it... | |
| Visited a Store and was shunned I have to compliement and rave about LMC Entertainment in Tempe and Scottsdale, Arizona. Every time I'm visiting either showroom, the sales people are always happy to chat and showcase their equipment. They're super professional and very friendly.... | |
| Are you a keeper or a flipper? I'm a keeper and an occasional flipper. There were some pieces I bought to try them in my system, and if I didn't like them I sold them, some I bought at a great price to make a little profit to allow for my next upgrade, and there are the pieces ... | |
| Do you buy new, used or new or used gear? I think that 90% of my stereo equipment was bought used. I'm my opinion you get more bang for your buck that way. | |
| An Audio Amateur's question about McIntosh Audio Personally, I've always liked how McIntosh components sound and look. I started my McIntosh journey in 2013, I've tried many different components (including McIntosh speakers) and I love the system I have built. A lot of people dislike McIntosh, b... | |
| the one that got away - how do you handle grief? I missed out on a McIntosh MT10 turntable for a great price (85% off!!!) a few years back, and it haunted me until recently, when I got my hands on my dream speakers for a really good deal. You win some, you lose some. | |
| Need some help shipping speakers I recently flew from Arizona to Florida, bought a pair of speakers and drove them back. I won't trust any shipping company with expensive/heavy speakers. 1,000 miles is not that bad. Fly one way, rent a minivan like a Chrysler Pacifica (great inte... | |
| Which Cartrudge For My Upcoming Technics 1200 GR 2 Turnable - Looking at Ortofon 2m Black I'm have a 1200G and I'm using an Ortodon 2M Black and I absolutely love it. I use it with a McIntosh C2300 preamp, using its own phone stage. It's smooth, detailed, and it produces great sound. | |
| cats and speakers - looking for clues I love our cat, but she lives with my girlfriend. The dogs hang out here 😀 | |
| Tube Pre and SS Power? Or the reverse? I've had both in my system. C45 with MC275 - it sounded great. Clarity, bass, very organic. Then I tried a C2300 with MC601s. Very lush, sweet mids, great mid bass. I kept the C2300 with the MC601s. I hope that helps. I find that the tube pre... | |
| Buying Records I buy new ones from Amazon and used ones from a local shop, Discogs and sometime eBay. I've had good luck and bad luck with buying used online, but sometimes it's the only option you have for hard to find pressings. | |
| The one that got away McIntosh MT-10 turntable. Someone here sold one for $1200 (it's $10k new) and I tried to negotiate a lower price. Super stupid of me. It haunts me to this day. Also, a second pair of McIntosh XRT28s. I have one pair, the local dealer had another... | |
| Your oldest gear? Oldest piece I own are a pair of McIntosh MC30s from the 60s. The piece I've opened the longest and bought myself is a Pioneer receiver from 1997... | |
| McIntosh decisions I run a C2300 with MC601's mono blocks and I love that combination. The C2300 made my system sing. | |
| Why do you listen to records? I quit vinyl in the early 90s in favor of CDs, and got back into it about 10 years ago. I love both formats. Vinyl sounds different. Sometimes better than CDs, sometimes not. I do like the ritual of playing vinyl and the large artwork. |
