I am looking to upgrade - looking for advice
TJ, you have received a lot of good advice here so I’m just going to emphasize some of those things I heard that I mostly agree with. For starters, I owned a Debut Carbon (my brother has it now) and it’s a great entry level table. I would recommen...

@grossman616  Great quote from Boris The Blade.  👍

Used vs. new
I have been fortunate with my used equipment purchases, especially here on A-gon where I found a power amp and blueray player in great shape for reasonable $$$. In the past I always bought new and came around slowly to the idea of used gear. Alt...
Ripping CD's to hard drive
+1 FLAC  +1 dbPoweramp  I tried all sorts of formats and ripping tools before I finally settled on these and they made the entire process so much better and faster.  For someone like me that placed a lot of emphasis on accuracy when ripping, dbP...
Why does pulling out main speakers from wall improve sound?
This has been an excellent thread; any and all newbies should take heed and probably read it twice. To all these comments I would only add that listening is a skill, developed over time and learning to identify the small changes in sound that hap...
Upgrade from martin 40i
I have to say I’m very curious as to what the final result has been with your ML 40is.   Did you get your new tweeter installed?  Did that solve your problem?  Thanks.
Are There Improvements that Can Be Easily and Quickly Made Without Buying More Stuff?
+1 for earwax removal.  Sounds silly but once you try it, you’ll understand. Avoid q-tips whenever possible.  Just use something like Debrox and then shower. Almost free.
Favourite Guitarists
I’ve been fortunate enough to see some of these folks live so let me give an additional thumbs up to Robben Ford and Tommy Emmanuel.   Peter Green is another all time fave, though I’ve never heard him in person.   Mark Knopfler is often passed o...
Vinyl - One Word - WOW!!
I always find these analog vs digital debates entertaining. Many good points on both sides here, but they are unlikely to convince the many folks that are heavily invested in either, or confused about which path to follow. In some fundamental way...
Improve sound
You would have to do something very bad to blow a tweeter.  And chances are you heard it when it happened, if that is what happened.  If this is not the case and you are just not getting the sound you are looking for from one speaker, consider tro...
HELP!!!! Newbie looking for a decent 2 channel power amp in the $1,000 range
I stumbled on this thread too late to be of any real help, but I have to chime in here even though I know you’ve made your choice already. I recently swapped out my beloved Khartago for a Parasound A-23. At first, I only noticed the things that s...
Not sure what to think or do...
I think @sunshdw is closest to the answer here.  Wharfdales would seem to me to be the polar opposite of JBLs.  Aficionados of either of these speakers brands are unlikely to love the other.  Synergy, break-in or electronics are not the problem h...
RIP Christine McVie
A little known gem from her 80s solo album is One In A Million. It features vocals by Steve Winwood and drums by a pre-Heartbreakers Steve Ferrone. Great song. But my very first FM album was Bare Trees and it has been my favorite ever since. So i...
